Type: Worm, Virus
Systems Affected: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows XP
W32.Winfig.Gen arrives as a file named either Winsound.exe, Winfig.exe, or Kernelg.exe. It spreads through floppy disks. The virus continuously checks your floppy disk drive. If a floppy disk is detected in the drive, the virus copies itself to the floppy disk. The payload deletes Win.com. As a result, Windows does not function when you restart the computer.
