Adware.Bookedspace - Removal

The following instructions pertain to all Symantec antivirus products that support Security Risk detection.
  1. Update the definitions.
  2. Run a full system scan and delete all the files detected as Adware.Bookedspace.
  3. Delete the value that was added to the registry.
  4. Unregister the .dll file, if necessary.
For specific details on each of these steps, read the following instructions.

1. To update the definitions
To obtain the most recent definitions, start your Symantec program and run LiveUpdate.

2. To scan for and delete the files
  1. Start Norton AntiVirus and make sure that it is configured to scan all the files. For more information, read the document, "How to configure Norton AntiVirus to scan all files."
  2. Run a full system scan.
  3. If any files are detected as Adware.Bookedspace, click Delete.
  4. If the files cannot be deleted, note the name and path of the file, and then finish the scan. Follow the instructions in step 3, restart the computer, and then complete step 4, "Unregistering the .dll file."
3. To delete the value from the registry

WARNING: Symantec strongly recommends that you back up the registry before making any changes to it. Incorrect changes to the registry can result in permanent data loss or corrupted files. Modify the specified keys only. Read the document, "How to make a backup of the Windows registry," for instructions.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)
  2. Type regedit

    Then click OK. (The Registry Editor opens.)

  3. Navigate to the key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

  4. Navigate to and delete the following subkeys:

  5. In the right pane, delete the value:

    "[name of .dll file]" = "RunDLL32.exe [path to .dll file], DllRun"

  6. Exit the Registry Editor.

4. To unregister the .dll file, if necessary

Note: Follow these steps only if you were unable to delete the files in step 2c.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run. (The Run dialog box appears.)

  2. Type, or copy and paste, the following text:

    regsvr32 /u "
    [path to .dll file]"

    where [path to .dll file] is the path and file name written in step 2d. An example would look like this:

    regsvr32 /u "c:\windows\system32\oo4.dll"

  3. Click OK.

  4. If a dialog box confirming this action appears, click OK.

  5. Run another scan, deleting any files detected as Adware.Bookedspace.
