Trojan.Holax is a Trojan horse program that displays advertisements using Microsoft Internet Explorer. The Trojan modifies files so that it is executed every time Windows starts, and to ensure that it's processes are hidden on the compromised computer.

The Trojan is installed on the compromised computer through a Web page that exploits the Microsoft Outlook Express MHTML Redirection Local File Parsing Vulnerability (as described in the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-013).
