Android package file
The Trojan may arrive as a package with the following characteristics:
When the Trojan is being installed, it requests permissions to perform the following actions:
- Send SMS messages
- Write to external storage devices
- Read SMS messages
- Monitor incoming MMS messages
- Check the phone's current state
- Access information about networks
- Open network connections
Once installed, the application will display an orange icon with the Chinese character for "tao".
The Trojan generally arrives within a repackaged .apk file from a legitimate application. The package name, publisher, and other details will vary and may be taken directly from the original application.
The Trojan appears to be the legitimate "taobao" application for Android and has the same login activity as the legitimate version.
The Trojan sends the following information to a specific phone number:
- Taobao user name
- Taobao password
- Zhifubao user name
- Zhifubao password
The Trojan requires another .apk file to be downloaded so it can forward SMS messages to the specific phone number.
