ACT! 4.0 Pro Provides Users with Complete Customer Management; Turning Contacts into Relationships and Relationships into Results

Cupertino, Calif. --March 16, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the availability of ACT! 4.0 for Windows 95/NT, a fully customizable contact manager. As business demands rise, it is imperative that software applications provide users with useful solutions for managing all aspects of their business. ACT! 4.0 extends customer databases with the world of Internet information, delivers superior integration with communication tools, and provides the power users are looking for in a familiar and easy-to-use interface.

With over 1.3 million ACT! users, Symantec focused its efforts on developing an innovative feature set to address the needs of a fast-paced business world as well as to address top user requests. ACT! 4.0 spotlights Internet features which deliver the world of Internet information directly to the ACT! desktop. ACT! 4.0 also features tight integration with WinFax PRO which allows use of WinFax PRO cover pages and attachments, direct support for Internet (SMTP/POP3) and Eudora Pro e-mail, easy synchronization setup with an administrative synchronization log, as well as many ease-of-use improvements.

For users who want optimal utilization of ACT!'s power, this latest version features "Getting Started with ACT! 4.0," a computer-based multimedia training video produced by ViaGrafix. This training familiarizes both new and old ACT! users with ACT! 4.0 features, allowing them to achieve higher levels of productivity in minutes.

New Features
In addition to tracking key information about contacts, ACT! users can now harness the power of the Internet. ACT! 4.0 allows users to get extended up-to-date and accurate information on contacts using the Internet. Users can now automatically link to numerous sites on the Internet including Yahoo! Maps, Yahoo! Company Search, Yahoo! Stock Quote, Inquisit Contact Watcher, and much more. For example, with one click of the mouse, the user can search the Internet for company information, see a street-level map of the contact's business or home location, and get driving directions to their client's site. The advantage of a contact manager is instant access to complete customer information which includes information available on the Internet.

ACT! 4.0's Internet integration also includes direct Internet e-mail support (SMTP/POP3) and support of Qualcomm's Eudora Pro e-mail. Users can now communicate directly with individual contacts, groups of contacts, or an entire contact database using Internet e-mail or Eudora Pro e-mail, as well as other e-mail systems. Communicating with customers via e-mail extends the ACT! user's ability to develop and maintain existing business relationships as well as increasing their business with new customers. ACT! also includes a web site (URL) field where the user can input any Internet web address and then connect to that web site directly from ACT!. ACT! 4.0 supports most popular browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.

ACT! 4.0 users can now filter activities by activity type, date, and priority and instantly produce an activity report which looks exactly as it appears on the screen. The new version also makes it easier to handpick a subset of contacts to work with by allowing users to find a contact by simply typing the first few letters of a name as well as by "tagging" contact records with one mouse click. ACT! 4.0 users can keep critical contact data safe using the new integrated, zipped backup. A reminder informs the user that it is time to backup. ACT! contact data as well as layouts, envelopes, reports, and labels can be safely stored on floppies or a network drive.

ACT! 4.0 includes SideACT!, which runs inside or outside of ACT!. SideACT! holds to-dos, phone calls, memos, etc. SideACT! allows the user to quickly and easily jot down items without having to launch ACT! and provides the flexibility of completing the items in SideACT! or creating ACT! to-dos, calls or meetings within the ACT! database. SideACT! allows users to stay completely organized and on top of all the details.

LiveUpdate, a user friendly technology that enables Symantec customers to easily obtain ACT! 4.0 product information, patches and updates, is obtained directly from Symantec via the Internet or modem. LiveUpdate appears in the ACT! help menu and launches a Wizard to guide ACT! users through the software updating process. To further boost productivity, LiveUpdate works in the background so users may continue to work while the program is updating.

ACT! 4.0 for Windows 95/NT will include in the box a free copy of ACT! 3.0 for Windows 3.1, plus lots of great trial software including WinFax PRO, Norton AntiVirus, pcANYWHERE, Eudora Pro, Connected Online Backup and others. Additionally, all ACT! users can now take immediate advantage of the ACT! PalmPilot link which is included on the CD.

Pricing and Availability
ACT! 4.0 for Windows 95/NT will be available from Symantec's network of authorized resellers for an estimated retail price (ERP) of (US) $199.95 and an upgrade price of $89.95.

System Requirements
ACT! 4.0 for Windows 95/NT requires Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, PC with 80486 or higher microprocessor, CD-ROM drive, 8 MB of RAM and 30MB free hard disk space for minimum installation; 40MB free hard disk space for typical installation.
