Symantec Appoints Former Trend Micro Executive to Head European ISP/ASP Business

CUPERTINO, Calif. -October 4, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that it has appointed former Trend Micro vice president, Paul Dinsmore, as director of its Service Provider Solutions Division in Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Based in the UK, Dinsmore will work closely with leading Internet Service Providers (ISP) and Application Service Providers (ASP) across EMEA. He will be responsible for directing Symantec in the continuing integration of its Internet security technology into the Internet infrastructure. Symantec has recently announced significant deals with companies such as Pipex and Tele Danmark to provide the Norton AntiVirus technology to their customers.

Dinsmore, who was responsible for Trend Micro's Internet outsourcing business in EMEA, has also held a number of senior management positions for companies including Nortel, Mercury Communications and UUNet, where he was managing director of the company's operations in South Africa. Dinsmore was also managing director of a data security company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

"Our Service Provider Solutions Division was launched recently in Europe and already we have had considerable success; with Paul's additional expertise, we expect to grow and develop this business further."
