Symantec Expert to Address VPN Security at Computer Security 2001

CUPERTINO AND MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - May 15, 2001 Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that Tasha van Es, technical product manager at Symantec, will speak at the Information Systems Security Association’s (ISSA) Computer Security 2001 on Wednesday, May 16. Van Es will discuss remote security solutions, focusing on VPN security, at 2:25 p.m.

"As organizations open up their e-business networks to employees, partners, suppliers and customers, VPNs represent a key component of a comprehensive security solution," van Es said. "Today’s VPN solutions must go beyond traditional remote access requirements, safely expanding corporate boundaries to remote users and branch offices, addressing security at either end of the VPN."

Van Es will examine the necessary elements of an effective remote security solution, including VPNs, multi-factor access, data encryption and one-time passwords. Attendees will also learn specifically how a VPN works, the importance of two-factor authentication and how to control access for local and remote users.

Computer Security 2001, which runs May 16-17 in New York City, is planned around the theme Protecting the Information Infrastructure. The conference will provide information on how managers and their staffs, users, security administrators, auditors, consultants and vendors can jointly plan for the hazards and complexities confronting the processing of information.

Van Es has six years of network security experience covering an extensive range of technologies and topics, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection, host hardening, Unix security, security planning and practices, IPSec/IKE, security monitoring and incident response. Prior to rejoining Symantec, van Es served as a network security consultant and trainer for FireTower Internet Security. Previously, she was a dedicated Premium Support Engineer for the former Raptor Systems and Axent Technologies’ Raptor Business Unit.
