Symantec and SafeStone Technologies PLC Join Efforts to Bring Customers Integrated Solution

Combined with SafeStone’s DetectIT, Symantec’s Enterprise Security Manager and Intruder Alert Provide Security Management for IBM’s eServer iSeries (AS/400)

CUPERTINO, Calif. - July 30, 2001- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC) and SafeStone Technologies PLC announced today that they are teaming sales and support staff to bring their integrated security solution to IBM eServer iSeries (formerly AS/400) users. Symantec’s award winning vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection solutions Enterprise Security Manager (ESM) and Intruder Alert are integrated with SafeStone’s Detect IT to allow customers to monitor their security policy on IBM’s eServer iSeries. As part of the relationship, Symantec and Safestone plan to continue working together to tightly integrate future product releases.

SafeStone’s DetectIT seamlessly interfaces into ESM and Intruder Alert, allowing central administration of multiple operating systems, including UNIX, NetWare, iSeries and Windows NT. Using pre-defined corporate security policies, the joint solution facilitates the monitoring and measurement of security throughout the whole enterprise, providing powerful integration and cost savings.. DetectIT is currently the only third-party product integrated with ESM for the IBM eServer iSeries that is officially supported by Symantec.

"Symantec is committed to providing customers security solutions that span multiple platforms. Enterprise Security Manager and Intruder Alert are best-of-breed security solutions that until now were only available for our customers using Unix, NetWare and Windows NT/2000," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Symantec Product Delivery and Response. "Symantec’s partnership with SafeStone allows our customers using the IBM eServer iSeries to confidently expand their use of ESM and Intruder Alert across their complex network environments."

"SafeStone Technologies has been the leading supplier of Symantec’s Intruder Alert and ESM solutions to the iSeries market in Europe and we are looking forward to our expanded relationship also benefiting our mutual North American customers," stated John Todd, CEO of SafeStone Technologies. "This partnership will provide valuable time and cost savings for our customers because it allows the customers to utilize their existing platforms without compromising security."

Symantec’s Enterprise Security Manager allows users to automate the planning, management and control of their security policies from a single location. ESM provides an efficient means of managing and controlling the policy while providing reports that enable an administrator to show tangible evidence of security progress across the enterprise.

Symantec’s Intruder Alert detects unauthorized and malicious activity, keeping systems, applications and data secure from misuse and abuse. If these systems are threatened, Intruder Alert can notify the administrator and even take precautionary actions to prevent information theft or loss. The product also provides the ability to centrally collect and securely archive audit logs for post-event analysis. SafeStone's DetectIT provides comprehensive security systems management for the iSeries 400. This modular based system includes policy compliance, user access control, intrusion detection and audit tools.
