CUPERTINO, Calif. – Jan. 2, 2002 John W. Thompson, chairman and chief executive officer of Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), today announced the appointment of John Schwarz as president and chief operating officer of Symantec. Schwarz, who will report to Thompson, was president and CEO of Reciprocal, an early stage security software company focused on digital rights management. As president and COO of Symantec, Schwarz will be responsible for all product development, incident response, sales, support, professional services and partner relationships.
Schwarz brings an extensive enterprise solutions development, industry marketing and executive management background to Symantec. Prior to joining Reciprocal, he was the general manager of IBM's Industry Solutions unit, a worldwide organization focused on building business applications and related services for IBM's large industry customers. In addition to managing several enterprise software development operations, he also led IBM's industry alliance programs, establishing strong partnerships with thousands of software developers around the world.
