CUPERTINO, Calif. - Aug. 19, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that John W. Thompson, Symantec's chairman and chief executive officer, will participate in a roundtable discussion at the Aspen Summit 2004 on Monday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. MDT. The Summit is being held Aug. 22-24 at the St. Regis Hotel in Aspen, Colo.
The Aspen Summit is The Progress & Freedom Foundation's annual gathering of the digital world's most prominent business leaders, probing thinkers, and influential policymakers. The Progress & Freedom Foundation is a market-oriented think tank that studies the digital revolution and its implications for public policy. Now in its tenth year, the theme of this year's Aspen Summit is "The Future of the Internet."
As part of the Aspen Summit 2004, Thompson will participate in a roundtable discussion titled "Governing the Internet: Mandates, Markets, and Consumer Protection." He is scheduled to be joined at the roundtable by moderator Thomas M. Lenard, vice president of The Progress & Freedom Foundation; Zoë Baird, president of Markle Foundation; the Honorable David Gross, U.S. Coordinator for International Communications and Information Policy in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, U.S. State Department; the Honorable Orson Swindle, commissioner, Federal Trade Commission; and Robert E. Kahn, chairman, CEO and president of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives.
