CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 27, 2006 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that CMP’s VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR magazines have both selected Symantec as one of North America’s top information-technology (IT) vendors for leadership and innovation across the company’s overall and government channel partner programs. VARBusiness has recognized the Symantec Partner Program with a Five-Star rating -- the highest rating a vendor can earn -- for the fifth consecutive year. And in the inaugural year for its award, GovernmentVAR has also awarded Symantec’s Government Partner Program with a Five-Star rating.
“We applaud vendors like Symantec for demonstrating best practices and for the leadership roles they have achieved within the IT distribution channel,” says VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR Editor Lawrence M. Walsh.
To determine the most robust vendor partner programs and those deserving of a Five-Star rating, VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR invited IT vendors to submit descriptions of both their overall and government channel partner programs during 2005. After collecting hundreds of data points from IT vendors across every market segment, editors from VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR examined key metrics that included channel leadership with each company, percentage of revenue derived from partners, investments in channel programs, communications with partners, velocity of sales through partners, and innovation. The vendors that excelled in the key metrics received the Five-Star rating.
“We are honored to have VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR magazines recognize Symantec as one of today’s technology industry channel leaders,” said Randy Cochran, vice president of Symantec’s Channel Sales, Americas. “Symantec is dedicated to fostering, promoting, and driving partner success through the channel, and we look forward to carrying on this focus as we continue to roll out our newly integrated partner program.”
The new Symantec partner program streamlines and simplifies processes for Symantec partners, while providing them with the resources to deliver value, meet their customer’s needs and to expand their portfolio of market leading solutions. The program builds on the Five-Star rated programs from Symantec and VERITAS -- focusing on channel leadership and innovation.
Of the 250+ vendor-program entries reviewed for the past year, only 70 companies received the coveted five-star rating in VARBusiness magazine’s 12th annual Partner Programs Guide survey. Of the 100+ vendor-program entries reviewed for the past year, only 25 companies received the coveted five-star rating in GovernmentVAR magazine’s first annual Partner Programs Guide survey. Both guides appear in the March 20, 2006, issues of VARBusiness and GovernmentVAR magazines.
