MALAYSIA – 27 June, 2006 – The Malaysian government has invited John W. Thompson, Chairman and CEO of Symantec Corp. IMPACT is a Malaysian-conceived international platform to allow governments of the world to exchange notes and ideas, and facilitate the sharing of skills and best practices to combat constantly evolving cyber threats.
Mr Eric Hoh, vice president, Symantec Asia South Region said, “IMPACT is an example of the type of public and private partnership that is needed to combat today’s cyber security threats. Today’s attacks require a proactive approach to security, and that includes developing a template for how government and business can coordinate efforts to build an infrastructure that offers individuals and organizations protection from cyber threats. Together with Ascendsys, a business partner of Symantec and IMPACT, we look forward to partnering with participating governments throughout the world to build a secure, resilient, infrastructure to protect individuals and businesses from today and tomorrow’s online attacks.”
Mr. Mohd Noor Amin, Chairman, Ascendsys said, “In today’s increasingly connected digital world, IMPACT is a ground-breaking initiative. For the first time, governments throughout the globe have a platform that will bring them together in achieving their common goal of a safe and secure cyber space. With leading technology companies joining hands with nations around the world in this pioneering alliance, we foresee IMPACT being the foremost global institution in the fight against cyber threats. As a leading security services organization, Ascendsys is honored to be given the trust to manage IMPACT’s facilities. We are pleased that Symantec - our trusted partner and the world’s leading IT security solutions company, is among the first private sector companies invited to participate in IMPACT. We are particularly delighted with John’s appointment to IMPACT’s inaugural International Advisory Board. Without doubt, John’s extensive experience and Symantec’s technological leadership will enhance IMPACT’s role as a formidable alliance against global cyber threats.”
