Introduction

DeskView for Displays is an add-on for DeskView solution developed by Altiris and Fujitsu Siemens Computers that lets you inventory and manage Fujitsu Siemens Computers display devices remotely from the administrator’s desk. This solution effectively manages the second generation of SCENICVIEW Premium Line LCD displays and other displays equipped with a VESA-DDC/CI-compatible interface. DeskView for Displays supports inventory management and remote configuration of display settings.

Prerequisites

DeskView for Displays requires Altiris Notification Server 6.0 SP3 or later.

You can download beta versions of Altiris products from http://beta.altiris.com.

Installation and Upgrade Steps

DeskView for Displays requires DeskView Solution - the core component for all DeskView products. To ensure that all required components are installed, we recommend that you upgrade/install the solution from the Solution Center.

To upgrade/install DeskView for Displays solution from the Solution Center:
  1. From the Notification Server computer’s Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab (If you are using the Altiris Console 6.5, select View > Configuration).
  2. In the left pane, click Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions.
    The Solution Center page opens in the right pane with a list of Available Solutions.
  3. Click Segments.
  4. Click Partner Solutions.
  5. Click the solution that you want to upgrade/install.
    Example: Fujitsu Siemens Computers DeskView for Displays.
  6. Follow the instructions.

Uninstall Display Agents from Computers with Windows 2000 Operating System

Microsoft Windows 2000 is no longer supported by DeskView for Displays 10.6. We suggest that you uninstall the DeskView Display Agent from computers with a Windows 2000 operating system before upgrading the solution (Configuration > Solution Settings > Platform Administration > DeskView > Display > Uninstall > Uninstall DeskView Display Agent). If you do not uninstall the DeskView Display Agent, the DeskView Agent can fail to run on Windows 2000 computers.

 
Upgrade DeskView Solutions to 10.6

We recommend that you upgrade all DeskView solutions to version 10.6 and install the latest DeskView Agent version 6.20 or later on the client computers before installing DeskView for Displays. This is because the DeskView Agent version prior to 6.20 fails to run when DeskView for Displays 10.6 is installed.

 
Tasks are Reset to Defaults after Upgrade

After you upgrade DeskView for Displays to version 10.6, all tasks under Tasks > DeskView Display Settings reset to their default state.

 

What's New in this Release

Improvements for this release include the following new features:

DeskView Display Agent Supports Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition

Client computers running Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition are now supported.

DisplayView Application is no Longer Included in the Release

The DisplayView application is no longer included in this release. However, you can continue to use the DisplayView application already installed on client computers by earlier versions of DeskView for Displays.

The Uninstall DeskView Display Agent policy will not uninstall the DisplayView application from client computers any more. If you want, you can uninstall the DisplayView application from client computers manually. Alternatively, you can contact Fujitsu Siemens Computers helpdesk and request an uninstall policy add-on that you can import into DeskView and use to uninstall the application.

Versions Compatibility Issue

Potential compatibility issue with different versions of DeskView Client Agent and DeskView Display Agent has been fixed. Be sure to upgrade all existing DeskView and DeskView For Displays solutions to 10.6, including the appropriate client agents.

Display Device May Become Unmanageable When Connected to Unsupported Hardware

By default, DeskView for Displays supports all DDC/CI capable display devices of Fujitsu Siemens Computers and a wide range of third-party graphic adapters. For a detailed list of supported displays and graphic adapters’ hardware, please see http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/manageability.

 
Error when Deploying Display Agent on a Computer with Display Agent Already Installed

When deploying the DeskView Display Agent on a computer with the Agent already installed, an error message is shown on the client computer after the next reboot. The error message is shown only once. This behavior does not affect the functionality of DeskView For Displays.
