Symantec Technical Support requested that I disable "Session Controller" to troubleshoot an issue. How do I disable Session Controller?
Session Controller (SessionController.exe) is included with pcAnywhere to manage multiple simultaneous remote control sessions within a single Symantec pcAnywhere window in a tabbed view.
Disabling Session Controller prevents the tabbed view, so that each session appears in a separate window. This is a work-around to some recently reported issues, such as an unexpected end to a remote control session. Symantec Technical Support may request that you do this as part of troubleshooting, as Symantec investigates to determine the root cause of issues.
To disable Session Controller (this needs to be done on the REMOTE machine as this change will affect your Remote interface!!):
On a computer with the full pcAnywhere "box" or "standalone" product
Open the Symantec pcAnywhere program. Click Edit > Preferences, scroll to the right and click the Session Manager tab, uncheck "Show active sessions in a tabbed view", click Apply, and finally click OK.
On computers with the pcAnywhere Solution agent installed, edit the registry
Set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\System\UseSessionController to 0 (zero).
Note that if the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\System\UseSessionController exists, it will override the value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Delete that key under HKEY_CURRENT_USER if it exists, or set it to 0 (zero).
