Issue

Pulling up the Reports tab takes forever and then causes the following error:

Date: Mar 07 10:49:57:000
Source: Altiris.GaugeSubsystem.GaugeTreeProvider.GetTree
Description: MakeTreeXml returned invalid Xml

Environment

Notification Server 6.0 SP3, SP3 KB22690, and SP3 R2
Site Monitor installed
SQL 2000*

Also occurs on Notification Server 6.0 SP3 and SP3 R1

Cause

An unnecessary gauge subsytem was installed or a gauge subsystem solution was installed to allow Site Monitor Solution gauges to work.

Solution

Remove the gauge subsystem through Add or Remove Programs, if the gauges are not used.

Note: Gauges are used by Site Monitor. There is no other tuning that will improve the Report tab performance with SQL 2000, but upgrading to SQL 2005 has improved the performance of the Report tab loading.

After the Gauge Subsystem has been uninstalled do the following:

  1. Uninstall site monitor.
  2. Install the gauge subsystem.
  3. Install site monitor.

For steps 2 and 3, visit the ftp site at ftp://apl-ftp1.altiris.com/Site%20Monitor/; install the gauge subsystem exe first on the Notification Server then install the Site Monitor exe on the Notification Server.

Also for the ftp site:

username = cc-monitor
password = gopats

When a solution gets uninstalled and we leave assembly items in the class table, that's what all of those errors are referencing. no solution but  Altiris.GaugeSubsystem, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d516cb311cfb6e4f  entries are all over the CLASS table (Assembly column). We have the same problem with the monitor solution core uninstall. The monitor solution development team and the notification server development team are working on that problem.
