When attempting to open the Granular Restore option (GRO) console, on either a Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) or Symantec System Recovery (SSR) install, the console fails to open generating an error.
Unable to locate GranularRestore.rtc, hence closing the application
Windows based clients
The GranularRestore.rtc file has become missing or corrupt. The GranularRestore.rtc file is required to open the GRO console.
Remove the corrupt copy of the GranularRestore.rtc , if present, and replace the file by either doing a repair install, from a copy extracted from a recovery point of this system, or copy the file from a 2nd system.
1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the appropriate sub-folder location:

3. Repair the System Recovery installation by using, depending upon the version of Windows, Microsoft's Add & Remove Programs / Programs and Features control panel Change | Repair option when the System Recovery product is selected.
NOTE: Inserting the System Recovery product installation disk and attempting an install will also invoke the repair option.

If file is present: Attempt to open the GRO console by going to START | ALL PROGRAMS | SYMANTEC SYSTEM RECOVERY | GRANULAR RESTORE OPTION .
