Windows based clients

The GranularRestore.rtc file has become missing or corrupt. The GranularRestore.rtc file is required to open the GRO console.

Remove the corrupt copy of the GranularRestore.rtc , if present, and replace the file by either doing a repair install, from a copy extracted from a recovery point of this system, or copy the file from a 2nd system.

1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the appropriate sub-folder location:

SSR 2013 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Recovery\Console

SSR 2013 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec System Recovery\Console

BESR 2010/2011: C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Console

2. Right-click on the GranularRestore.rtc file, if present, and choose Delete.

3. Repair the System Recovery installation by using, depending upon the version of Windows, Microsoft's Add & Remove Programs / Programs and Features control panel Change | Repair option when the System Recovery product is selected.

NOTE: Inserting the System Recovery product installation disk and attempting an install will also invoke the repair option.

4. Reboot the system after the repair has completed.

5. Check if GranularRestore.rtc file is present in the appropriate subfolder stated in step 1.

6. Do one of the following:

If file is present: Attempt to open the GRO console by going to START | ALL PROGRAMS | SYMANTEC SYSTEM RECOVERY | GRANULAR RESTORE OPTION .

If file is not present: Proceed with the additional steps below.

7. If the GranularRestore.rtc file is not present attempt the following:

-- Extract the file from an earlier Recovery Point of this system using the Symantec Recovery Point Browser. Refer to the Related Articles section below for more information about the Symantec Recovery Point Browser.
