Issue



When you configure a manual or scheduled scan the mailbox or public folder list is incomplete.


Solution



Each time the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) service starts, Active Directory (AD) is queried to get the list of mailboxes and public folders. The information is stored in the Master.mb and Master.pf files in <SMSMSE installation folder>\<version>\Server\Config. Once the service is started the query is performed every 6 hours. The Mster.mb and Mster.pf files are plain text files. You can open them in any text editor to see if they are complete.

This issue is caused by either, an AD change since the last AD query or the Mster.mb or Master.pf files are damaged. Follow these steps to correct the issue:

  1. Delete the Master.mb and Master.pf files
  2. Restart the SMSMSE service
