User Enrollment Fails With "/" Character In AD Group Name

During device enrollment, you enter the correct username and password but receive a message that authentication fails. You are certain the user name and password are correct. Security logs for AD shows successful user credential lookup. The enrolling user is a member of a number of security and distribution groups.
Symantec Mobile Management for SMP 7.2 x
There is a known issue with the enrollment authentication component. It fails when the enrolling user is a member of a security of distribution group that has the "/" character in it's name.
As a workaround, have the customer rename any groups the user is a member that have the "/" character. A solution to this issue may be provided in a future release.
