NetBackup Appliance web interface returns HTTP status 503

Issue



On a NetBackup 5200 or 5220 series appliance, the web interface is unavailable and returns the message below.

HTTP Status 503


Error



HTTP Status 503 - Servlet action is currently unavailable


Solution



Reset the web interface (GUI) on the appliance by following these steps:

1. SSH into the appliance.

2. Navigate to the command line:

Support > Maintenance > (admin password) > elevate

3. Stop the GUI:

/opt/SYMCnbappws/bin/stopgui.sh

4. Rename both of the webapps folders:

mv /opt/SYMCnbappws/webserver/webapps/appliance /opt/SYMCnbappws/appliance_backup

mv /opt/SYMCnbappws/webserver/webapps/appliancews /opt/SYMCnbappws/appliancews_backup

5. Reconfigure the GUI:

/opt/SYMCnbappws/bin/goodies/configureGUI.sh

6. Start the GUI:

/opt/SYMCnbappws/bin/startgui.sh
