Issue

Extra steps are required to perform NetBackup 7.6 client push installations from an HP PA-RISC media server to clients that support NetBackup-Java applications.

During the installation, /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf ends up empty on the receiving client. This issue applies to the ssh, rsh, ftp, sftp, and update_clients remote installation methods for both initial installations and upgrades.

Error

On the receiving client, /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf has zero length. From the pushing server, you encounter a message similar to the following: grep: can't open /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf.

If nbj.conf is empty, the jpbSA and jnbSA commands fail with the following error:

Initialization of NetBackup-Java failed due to the
following error:
Invalid value for NB-Java configuration option
PBX_PORT: null. Status: 520
Configuration file: /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf

Solution

To avoid this issue, perform NetBackup 7.6 client push installations from a server that supports NetBackup-Java applications.

To work around this issue, perform one of the following extra steps:

  • Enter the following text into /usr/openv/java/nbj.conf
    PBX_PORT=1556
    NBJAVA_CLIENT_PORT_WINDOW=0 0
    INSTALL_PATH=/usr/openv/java
    INITIAL_MEMORY=256M
    MAX_MEMORY=512M
    MEM_USE_WARNING=80
    FORCE_IPADDR_LOOKUP=0
    USE_NBJAUTH_WITH_ENHAUTH=0
    NBJAVA_CORBA_DEFAULT_TIMEOUT=60
    NBJAVA_CORBA_LONG_TIMEOUT=1800
    FORCE_RESET=1
    VNETD_CONNECT_RETRY_TIMEOUT=60
    USE_OS_DATETIME_FORMAT=0
    NBCSSC_PORT=5637
    NBSDS_PORT=5638
    VALIDATE_REPLICATION_TOPOLOGY=1
  • Replace the zero-length nbj.conf file on the affected client with the nbj.conf file that applies to your client type from the /usr/openv/netbackup/client/<HW>/<OS> directory on the server.

Note:

You cannot copy nbj.conf.bak to nbj.conf because the contents of the
file are different after upgrading to NetBackup 7.6.
