Task Server (TS) publishes its URL to the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) using the internal FQDN.
ITMS 7.5 environment using third party trusted SSL certificates (e.g. VeriSign) on the SMP and Site Servers serving CEM Agents.
Known issue. There is no specific code in TS to send/get Task Server FQDN. When we create a list of available TSs, we get FQDN names for TS servers from Inv_AeX_AC_TCPIP database table using fnTM_GetComputerResourceFQDN function.
This issue has been reported to the Symantec Development team. A final fix will be available in a 7.5 PointFix 4 release.
A pointfix is available for 7.5 initial release and 7.5 HF3. See the two attached DLLs: AeXBasicInventory.dll and AeXBasicInventory-x86.dll for 7.5 initial release. And attached DLL files for HF3 relese named accordingly.
Instructions how to apply the pointfix:
1. On task server machine stop AexNSClient (Symantec Management Agent) service.
2. Back-up original AeXBasicInventory.dll located in Agent directory, by default "c:\program files\altiris\altiris agent\" .
3a. For 64bit OS of Task Server: Copy AeXBasicInventory.dll attached to this KB to Agent location, by default "c:\program files\altiris\Altiris agent\".
3b. For 32bit OS of Task Server: Copy AeXBasicInventory-x86.dll attached to this KB to Agent location, by default "c:\program files\altiris\Altiris agent\", renaming it to AeXBasicInventory.dll during or before the copy
4. Start AexNSClient service.
For HF3 installation.
Follow same steps 1-4, yet you would need to rename attached files to AexBasicInventory.dll (removing -HF3 / -HF3-x86 symbols from filen
Instructions how to use pointfix:
Development added a new registry key, which will allow to specify custom FQDN strings which will be used as a alternative hostnames while generation of HTTP & HTTPS codebases by Task Server.
The keys should be created manually under registry folder "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris\AltirisAgent\Inventory".
Key name: "FQDN Replacement"
Key type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Key format: <system DomainName to replace>:<new DomainName>
Multiple lines are supported. First found match will be used for replacement of Domain name in "Identification", "TCPIP", "TCPIPv6" dataclasses.
FQDN names for TS servers are taken from Inv_AeX_AC_TCPIP. To resolve the same issue but with a Package Server, please refer to TECH210809 "KNOWN ISSUE: Package Server publishes its codebase to the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) using the internal FQDN"
