Duplications from MSDP to PDDO fail with a Status 191

Issue



Duplications which originate from a 2.6.0.1 MSDP (media server deduplication pool) storage server and write to a target which is a three node or greater PDDO (PureDisk deduplication option) storage pool fail with a Status 191. The Replication.log shows a 99: Error sending data: only sent -1 of 16384 bytes: broken pipe message.
 


Error



The replication.log which can be found in <storage>/log/spad/ on the source MSDP pool shows the following:

March 03 12:10:30 WARNING [139829866747648]: 99: ClientTask: failed at the 1 time for job[149632d] (broken pipe)

The session logs will also show the following error:

12:10:32 ERR [1787391] [140082837186304]: 25014: Message contains too many get operations: 297510 bytes, maximum supported size is 131072 bytes.
12:10:32 ERR [1787391] [140082837186304]: 25014: Could not process get operations: Message contains too many get operations: 297510 bytes, maximum supported size is 131072 bytes.

The specific session log will be found under logs/spoold/<MSDP pool host>/spad/Receive/.


Environment



NetBackup 7.6.0.1 or NetBackup Appliance 2.6.0.1 with MSDP duplicating or replicating to any PDDO storage pool with three or more nodes.  This issue will impact Automatic Image Replication replications as well.
 


Cause



The problem occurs due to incorrectly determining the number of content routers in the destination pool.

 


Solution



ETA of Fix:
Symantec Corporation has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue (Etrack 3452056) is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned in this article.  Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers.  This issue was scheduled to be addressed in the following release(s):

  • NetBackup 7.6 Maintenance Update 2 (7.6.0.2)
  • NetBackup Appliances 2.6.0.2

These versions are now available - download and README information can be found in the Related Articles linked below.

Workaround:
Apply the appropriate hotfix attached to this document.

Note: These hotfix is no longer publicly available, as all of their fixes are included in the NetBackup 7.6.0.2 and NetBackup Appliances 2.6.0.2 maintenance releases.  If this issue is experienced, the supported resolution is to apply the latest maintenance release.
