Add Exclusions Component

Jun 13, 2012 10:39 AM

Component definition

This component is used to add exclusion rules to a collection (filter) in the indicated SMP.  The exclusions are added by their item guid(s).

Note - the only apparent difference between this component and the "Add Exclusions Component1" component is the "collection Item Guid" field.  In the "Add Exclusions Component", this field is locked to the "Unique Identifier" data type, whereas in the "Add Exclusions Component1" component the field is simply a text data type.

Definition of component output value or values

This component does not output any data variables.

Connection information

This component connects to an SMP server with an authentication token.  This token is easily fetched and used as a Global variable (populated into the auth fields by default) by including a "Create SMP Credentials" component upstream of this component.

The "Create SMP Credentials" component applies to the "Notification Server Address" as well as the "Use HTTPS" field.  These connection fields may also be configured manually.

Component settings

The "Timeout" value is measured in milliseconds (default of 10000 = 10 seconds) and determines how long this component is given to complete its action.

"Override Default Url" can be adjusted if necessary.  The default value is pre-configured to connect to the correct web service for this action.

Use case

Opting Out of a Patch

In a patch management situation, a web form could be provided to application owners that controls whether their server is exempt from an upcoming patch.  The admin could have pre-configured a filter which is an intended target of the upcoming patch, and the application owner can use the web form to indicate that they wish to exempt their server.  The web form may lead to this Exclusions component, and the server that the application owner selects will be the item guid input into the component, and the patch filter will be the collection item guid input for this component.
