Jun 18, 2008 01:39 PM

This article lists the steps for successfully configuring SQL 2005 Reporting Services and Analysis Services for optimal integration with Altiris IT Analytics Solution 6.1

Install SQL server 2005 Reporting and Analysis Services (SSRS & SSAS)

  1. Install SSRS and SSAS, but do not configure the services.

Configure the SQL Server Reporting Services using the "Reporting Services Configuration Wizard"(RS wizard) as follows:

  1. On the Reporting Server Virtual Directory tab create a new "Reporting Server Virtual Directory" with the following [Name] and [Website].
    1. Name: ReportServer
    2. Website: Default Web Site
  2. Select "Apply" and wait for the RS wizard to complete the creation of the reporting server virtual directory.
Note: No changes are necessary for the SSL settings unless the customer environment has SSL configured.
  3. Verify that all "Reporting Server Virtual Directory" tasks complete successfully.
  4. On the Report Manager Virtual Directory, create a new "Report Manager Virtual Directory" with the following [Name] and [Website].
    1. Name: Reports
    2. Website: Default Web Site
  5. Select "Apply" and wait for the RS wizard to complete the creation of the report manager virtual directory.
  6. Verify that all "Report Manager Virtual Directory" tasks complete successfully.
  7. On the Windows Service identity tab specify the "Windows Service Identity" for the report server use the following settings:
    1. Built-In Account: Local System
  8. Select "Apply" and wait for the RS wizard to complete the report server account configuration.
  9. Verify that all "Windows Service Identity" tasks complete successfully.
  10. On the Web Service Identity configure the RS "Web Service Identity" by creating a new "Application Pool" for both the Report Server and Report Manager.
    1. The new identity was configured as follows:
      • Application Pool Name: ReportServer
      • Select the "Built-In Account" radio button
      • Select the "Network Service" account from the drop-down menu.
      • Select "ok"
  11. In the "Report Manager" drop-down menu select the new pool "ReportServer" from the drop down menu.
  12. Select "Apply" and wait for the RS wizard to complete the report server web service identity configuration.
  13. Verify that all "Windows Service Identity" tasks complete successfully.
  14. On the Database Setup tab configure the database connection and create a Reporting Server database as follows:
    1. Connect to the Database Engine that will be used for Reporting Services. Note that this is not the Altiris database, and is solely for the operational requirements of Reporting Services. Typically this will be a SQL Server 2000/2005 Database Engine that resides on the same SQL Server instance as Reporting Services.
    2. Select the "New" button and configure the Reporting Server Database as follows:
      • Server Name: LOCAL <or Designated SQL Server 2000/2005 Database Engine> (should be completed if you successfully connected to the existing database)
      • Credentials Type: Current User - Integrated Security
      • Username: NULL
      • Password: NULL
      • Database Name: ReportServer
      • Language: English
    3. Select "Ok" then select the "Apply" button to create the new database and complete the database connection configuration.
    4. Verify that all "Database creation" tasks complete successfully.
  15. Proceed to the "Initialization" tab and verify that the new database is initialized. If not, select the database and select the "initialize" button.
  16. Select the "Apply" button and verify that all "Initialization" tasks complete successfully.
  17. Install IT Analytics using the "Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions" item on the Notification Server Configuration tab.
  18. Configure IT analytics using the procedures in the IT Analytics Help PDF in the documentation section of the Altiris Web site.
