Differences, characteristics and disadvantages of SQL Server and Oracle

Feb 18, 2019 08:22 PM

Good evening community in the most recent article I made a focused emphasis of what is SQL Server, its functions, advantages, disadvantages, common mistakes and how to correct some problems that are presented now in this article will talk about a topic related to the comparison between SQL Server and Oracle are both recognized in the market for their functions and for the final decision of each company but in this article we will highlight the characteristics that differentiate each one in certain aspects.

First let's define what is SQL Server and what is Oracle

                                                                                    SQL Server

We had talked in the article that SQL server as an integrated system that fulfills the primary function of managing the relational database in its acronym is known as (RDBMS) belonging to Microsoft for the development of a business or corporate environment either executed from the cloud or from the same system, SQL Server executes its activities in (Transact-SQL) which are extensions of said Sybase and Microsoft programming added to standard SQL features, under its code name Yukon in its development stage before being known as SQL Server.

                                                                                      Oracle

Oracle is defined as a client-server oriented tool to perform database management, its operation is based basically on the installation of the server tool (Oracle 8i) to then be able to choose the database from other equipment that has tools of development such as Oracle Designer and Oracle Developer incorporating a data package to make queries and using the SQL language.

We have already defined what is SQL Server and Oracle now the differences that characterize each one

                                                                                     SQL Server

  • Solutions to manage the recovery of originating disasters or data in sequential order.
  • Constant updates of data tools for business intelligence (BI SSDT).
  • Works in a more efficient way with .NET.
  • It is backed by Microsoft which increases its credibility for companies in the world.
  • Presents a dedicated server for reports known as SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Use a single developed storage engine developed by Microsoft.

                                                                                      Oracle

  • Data writing to increase the security of the sensitive data type.
  • It has a data management section for Flash Data Archive (FDA) files.
  • Advanced compression to optimize network performance.
  • Assignment of memory to instance divided into structures known as a series of PGA processes.
  • It tends to encompass a series of physical data files as part of the daily process assigned.

Now that we have talked about the differences of both we will talk a little about the advantages of SQL Server and Oracle

                                                                                    SQL Server

  • It makes a lot of use of RAM for installations and use of its software.
  • Prohibited for the use of practices in free mode can only be executed in a professional way when the license is acquired a solid element that protects it.
  • Low implementation of variable data types.

                                                                                      Oracle

  • The acquisition of the service has a very high cost and usually does not have a standart price more than anything for the simple license fees.
  • Inconsistency and incomptability of data in the time area and data syntax, sensitivity of characters since the language is complex.
  • Disadvantages to implement recursive processing, this hurts in a certain way Oracle to difference of Microsoft that in spite of its constant consumption of resources does not have this problem.

Both Microsoft and Oracle have their pros and cons but in spite of everything both are kept competitively to carry out different tasks assigned by the companies in an estimated time that seeks efficiency and transparency in each process.
