How RU6 Helped Our Company

May 26, 2010 06:57 PM

Hi everybody,
My name is Fatih and I am an assistant director of Turkey's biggest hospital. In this article I will demonstrate how Symantec Endpoint Protection version RU6 helped us and why we chose  Symantec as our solution.

Like any IT worker, we want to control users actions and ability to access/deny access to various parts of the system(s). As you may know, AV solutions control access primarily through "Group Policy" and  sometimes Third Party solutions. The best thing in Endpoint Protection is the advanced user control via "Application and Device Policy."  In essence, Endpoint Protection gives us more than simply an Antivirus Programme.

We have more than 300 computers on our network. Some of them are Mac in the Virtual Effect department. We have never been in control of the Mac computers until Endpoint Protection version RU6.  Since they are using MACs, we didn't know if  there was a risk or not.

Although they are on our network, the scary thing is we couldn'tt protect them or be protected from them. Obviously, this was a big risk for us, because we have very important documents about our patients and confidential doctor/client privileged information.

Conversely, our Windows clients are secure because SEP instaled them.
After RU6 was released, we were thrilled because it provided support and management of Mac clients.  We upgraded our Sep Manager and created MAC Packages. After instaling Symantec Endpoint Protection to the Mac machines, we didn't find any viruses. It was really terrific news!  I was concerned my heart would skip a beat, but it was a smooth installation with no issues. We are now protecting all the machines at the company, which means peace of mind for everyone!

RU6 also helped us because of a useful feature known as "Web Access."  Now I can connect to the SEP Manager on every computer in the company without installing Java, which has saved us considerable time and resources!

Additionally, we are using Symantec Brightmail Gateway for our mail security. Before Endpoint Protection RU6, we had to open the Brightmail Screen in Explorer and check every day. Now, with the deployment of RU6,  we can control Endpoint Protection and Brightmail gateway in one window. This has been very useful for us, saving us a lot of time and resources; not to mention money!

Best Regards.
Fatih

Nice article. Especially regarding the app and device control. Some complain how FakeAV gets thru but the simple fact is the only true way to stop is using app and device control. Such an excellant feature to have!
