Patch Management - Various Reports

Jan 16, 2009 12:32 PM

There are many reports available in Patch Management Solution, based on Agent Status, Software Bulletins, Agent Task Execution and Vulnerability and Compliance.

To check software update agent installed computers:

Select "Configuration" and expand Software Management -> Patch Management -> Windows -> Software Update Agent Rollout -> "All Windows Computers with Software Update Agent Installed". This will show all the computers which had Software Update Agent.

To check the vulnerabilities by computer:

In Reports-> Software Management -> Patch Management -> Compliance and Vulnerability

There are 7 kinds of reports in Compliance and Vulnerability.

For example to view "Microsoft Compliance and Vulnerability by Computer" report, In Compliance and Vulnerability section, select "Microsoft Compliance and Vulnerability by Computer" and click on "Run this report".

This report shows a summary of Applicable, Installed and Vulnerable Microsoft Software Updates for each computer. You can filter the results by the release date, severity or distribution status of the Software Bulletin, the supersedence status of the Software Updates, or the operating system of the targeted computers. Using the right-click context menu, you can drill down to detailed lists of the targeted computers.

Give the Release Date From & To, Click on "Refresh" button. This will show total Applicable patches, Installed and Vulnerable by Computer.

To check the task executed by the computers:

In Patch Management expand "Reports->Software management -> Patch Management-> Agent Task Execution-> Task Execution by Computer" and click on Run this report.

I have a problem with this report specifically. The MS09-001 update is Critical and Non-Superseeded and still is not reflected in this report. I have to assume that if it's missing MS09-001 (which is a big one here) that it is also missing many others.

MS09-001 shows up in the Microsoft Compliance and Vulnerability by Update report. I am also selecting every wildcard available in the report. Severity - Any, Custom Severity - Any, Distirubtion Status - All, Supersedence Status - All, Operating System - Any.

I typically use this report to stage the updates to begin with. So if it skips a critical, (or any update for that matter) that will be a problem.

I am going to clone the report and look at it to try to figure out why it's not reflected. Has anyone else run into this?
