How to search a software update in patch remediation center using the advisory name?
SMP 7.1 is pretty good enough to search for software bulletins if you know the bulletin name. What if you don’t know the bulletin name and all you have is the advisory name. For egg: if you want to search the software update KB3004375 for patch deployment, I don’t get any result when I do a search like this:
Here is how you find the details of this update in SMP Console.
Search for the advisory on top right hand corner. Type KB3004375 and hit the search icon:
Click on any of the search results displayed over there.
Once you pull up the details, you will be able to find the software bulleting for this update as shown below:
Go back to Patch Remediation center and find the software bulletin to select for deploying the update.
Right click and select Distribute packages.
Once you fill in the details in the next couple of pages, you will be able to select the applicable software update based on your OS for deployment.
That's pretty complicated way.
I do it in much simpler way directly in remediaton center, change view to show 'All software updates', then just type your kbxxxxx name in the search field. Now you can distribute or download the bulletin straight away.
