Can SEP SBE be installed as a client-only software?  I prefer business-grade software to the run-of-the-mill general consumer-grade software and purchased the SEP because I wanted to try it.  Now, before I install, I am wondering if I can just use it in a stand-alone client environment.  If the SEP manager isn't installed on a nearby server, can it reach out to Symantec directly and just pull updates from there?  I can't find the answer to this question anywhere on symantec.com so I realize I would be using it in an unintended manner.

I have installed End Point Protection from a 5 user pack I purchased last Septmber.I installed it on 4 clients and one server.  It is unmanaged due to the minimal amount of computers. When I manually install End Point it never asked me for the SLF file. It seem to work and it update back then.  They havent had any problems so they didnt call me since.  I came in for different software install today 5/5/12 and I see the server never updated its defs since the intial install.  All the clients are up to date with the update defs. The server wont let me update it or change the slf file.

How do I fix this?

Im thinking about renewing my 12.0 licens of symantec endpoint protection SBS that has benn to old, but now my reseller telling me that i need to reinstall 12.1 to get it too work thats just insane what he** of course i should be able to renew licens without installing the hole damn program.

Och bara en fråga är det helt omöjligt att symantec skaffar någon sorts servicemind i sverige man är hänvisad till ett skruttet forum som man måste logga in varje gång på det är ju otroligt dåligt ur användarsynpunkt

Is 12.1 an upgrade for 12.0

Jul 13, 2011 01:36 PM

Is this only needed for  the activation of SEP12?...or is it to enforce things e.g

1. Prohibit Update of content if maintenance has expired?

2. or prohibed the adding of sep clients in access of the licensed node count that was purchase?

Thx

Hello. I have developed a couple of sites on dreamweave 8, using a local testing server with XAMPP, running Apache, MySQL and phpMyadmin for databases.

Now I want to put them live on a web server and purchased SEP SBE 12 for protection.

Trouble is, I am unsure as to the server I should be using for SEP SBE 12 - Linux or Windows?

The spec on SBE 12 refers to Windows OS but I am told the best server OS is Linux if I wish to replicate my Apache/MySQL/phpmyAdmin environment.

Can anyone clarify if I will be able to use SEP SBE 12 on a linux server? Or do I need a Linux-specific version??

Create a thread for the issue, this would give the issue a better visiblity

What do you mean by "Replace the sylink on them"?  I am having the same issue of the client computers not appearing in the Console.  I have tried everything I know to include tips from Symantec but nothing will make the clients appear in the console.

Hi,

After create single exe using the Custom Installation ( Advanced ) option in SEP SBE 12.0, I installed in client machines by single exe file. But in live update it is connecting only symantec.com. But in SEP 11 the live update will not be highlited in client side. Is there any changes should I made for this.

SLF file is not required for an unmanaged SEP SBE 12. An Unmanaged/Selfmanaged SEP SBE client will get the definitions directly from internet. But in future if you are converting the unmanaged SEP SBE to managed SEP SBE you would need to install the license file in the SPC(Symantec Protection Center) console, which will managed all you clients.

I received the slf file for Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12 and I am installing Unmanaged Clients only.  When I install the unmanaged client, it doesn't ask me for any slf files.  What do I do with the slf file that I received via email?  Do I have to copy it somewhere?  Please advice.

Hi Iqbal,

There is no option to control USB ports and other peripherals in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.0, since there no Application and Device control policy is available in that version.

Thanks and Regards,

Yes the License is only required in SEP 12 and not in SEP 11 for activation.
If you upgrade from SEP 11 to SEP 12 you need to download the .slf file ( the Licence for activation)
SEP 12 is for small buisness so this License was added to the product feature this functionality was there in SAV 10 but was removed in SEP 11 and was again added in SEP 12 on popular demand.

Sep 23, 2009 08:46 AM

Hi,

SEP SBE 12.0 needs license file for activation right? What would happen to my SEP 11.0 would it mean that if I upgrade to the SEP SBE 12.0 I have to use a license file for activation? Well in fact, it would be easier to manage the SEP 11.0 because it does not need activation? Please advised.
