Symantec Endpoint Protection v14 has been released! (v14.0.1904.0000)

Oct 31, 2016 04:14 AM

Hey all,

It was not that long ago Symantec released 12.1.6 MP6. Then all of sudden, we’re seeing a new release from them already! :D

The latest version is now SEPM v14 (v14.0.1904.0000) and it contains lots of bug fixes and some changes.

So… a quick summary of what’s new…

  • NEW & refreshed interface & colour scheme

  • Intelligent Threat Cloud Service for client installation packages

  • Generic Exploit Mitigation

  • Improved protection

  • Cross-platform support:

  • Now supports the following platforms:

    • Windows Server 2016

    • Redhat v7.1 & v7.2

    • Oracle Linux 6U5

    • MacOS 10.12 (Sierra)

    • SQL Server 2014 SP2

    • Microsoft Edge

    • Firefox up to v49.0.xxx

    • Chrome up to v54.0.xxx

Looking good! And here are the documents for some light readings:

So where can you grab the latest version from? You can download it from the usual place which is https://symantec.flexnetoperations.com using your serial number (beginning with Mxxxxxxxx) - Please note: you cannot use your existing v12.1 serial number to access this. You will need to use a new serial which was sent out to all existing v12.1 users (Upgrade Notification e-mail) - if you have not received this e-mail, please contact Symantec Licensing Support to get the new serial number.

One of the biggest changes is that SEPM v14 console only installs onto a SERVER product and not on desktop product. After all, SEPM is an Server product at the end of the day so it does make sense.

I’m starting with the planning to migrate to this version very soon. What about you? Are you going to upgrade straightaway, or needs to plan first? Our setup have SVA and it’s now no longer supported, so I am investigating the new feature called DCS:Server.

Share your upgrade expierence!

Hi...

1) This is an "additional to table" meaning Server 2016 is added to the list of supported operating system. (You're reading the What's new in Symantec Endpoint Protection 14 list)

If you look at "Symantec™ Endpoint Protection 14 Installation and Administration Guide" - you will see the full list of supported operating system. (PDF, page 69)

2 & 3 - you will need to speak to Symantec licensing team to see what your current license can give you.

Hi: 3 questions

1) This site says that SEP 14 requires Server 2016. Is that true? I can't run it on 2012 R2?

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO125362.html#v112174395

2) Are clients eligible for the SEP 14 upgrade also eligible to migrate to SEP cloud? We'd rather do that.

Finally,

3) if we *are* eligible for cloud, how do we get a working license? The .SLF I received for SEP 14 on-prem does not work at

https://hostedendpoint.spn.com

Thanks in advance. This is a nonprofit organization and we buy our licenses through a special nonprofit reseller called techsoup.org.

Not true.

SEP 14 clients successfully connect and report into the management console of earlier versions (such as 12.1.6 MP5).

It is true however that the content does not update on these clients, and this is due to the fact that earlier versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager cannot host the content types introduced for version 14.

Possible workaround: introduce a liveupdate policy for these clients.

Any idea as to when SEPv14 MP1 is to be released to address all the bugs currently experienced?

Any feedback on this version?  I am planning to upgrade our current environment, 12.1.6 mp5 to 12.1.6 mp6 but just saw 14 came out.  I would like to use 14 to minimize the number of endpoint reboots if this update is worth it.

Thanks

Case open, crash dump and symantec logs with Engineering......

Dec 06, 2016 08:45 AM

Have you gotten a case open so they can begin root cause analysis?

Dec 06, 2016 08:43 AM

Is anyone else having issues with v14 BSOD their computers? We are starting a manual roll back process for over 1000 machines since this issue has not been resolved by Symantec. All systems work fine with v12.x on them.

Nope - they haven't said otherwise, yet.

Nov 28, 2016 01:15 AM

Do we know for how long will SEP14 still manage SEP12 agents?

Nov 26, 2016 12:54 PM

SEP 14 will not install on XP:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH236004

Yes, 14 will manage 12.1 clients.

Nov 26, 2016 12:49 PM

SEPM 14 can manage SEP 12.1.X and SEP 14 clients.

Refer the system requirement guide to check the compatibility of installing the SEP on specific OS.

Nov 26, 2016 12:05 PM

Yes, continue to run 12.1 on them. 14 will fully manage them.

Nov 26, 2016 12:00 PM

All are at SP3

What are the odds for v14 SEP clients to function on windows XP's runnin SP 3 on 32bit?

Is it possible to run v12.1.4 and v14 clients on v14 SEPM ?

Thank you

Nov 07, 2016 12:36 AM

What service pack is running on the XP's?

Nov 05, 2016 07:44 AM

I still have some Windows XP clients running the 12.1.7061.6600 client.  I understand the Version 14 will not support these clients and thus not upgrade.  Can I continue to run the 12X client on the XP's?  Will they receive virus/protection updates?

Thanks!

Thanks for this very nice article and the link collection to get started.

Is there a supported upgrade path from 12.x to 14.x ?

We have two existing 12.x SEPM Servers and i want to add two new ones and integrate them by adding them to the replication topology.

Is this possible when the new servers will have a version 14.x?

There are many changes - see the article links in my post for further details.

I've just upgrade to Symantec Endpoint Protection Management 12.1.6 MP6 (v12.1.7061.6600) from 12.1.6 MP5,succesfully,and right now clients are upgraded to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.7061.6600 for WIN64BIT/WIN32BIT

There are many diferences between 12.1.6.MP6 and v14.0.1904.0000 regarding upgrade?

We have:    Management Servers-OS version : Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard64-bit
Database server       -Microsoft SQL Server version 12.00.5000
