Symantec Management Platform Iframes do not work after installing KB3154070

Jun 13, 2016 11:57 AM

On May 10, 2016, Microsoft released MS16-051. which contains an update for Internet Explorer KB3154070. This changes how Iframes are loaded, and caused all Iframes in the IT Management suite to cease working correctly.

This issue is to be resolved in a future version of the product. The following workaround can be used to allow use of the Iframes.

On the effected machines, we will set up a local group policy to enable Enterprise Mode of Internet Explorer 11. This will allow us to specify a list of websites and what version of Internet Explorer to emulate the page in.

  1. On the effected machine, go to Start > Run. Type into the run dialog "gpedit.msc"

  2. In the Local Group Policy Editor, we are going to change two policies. The first will be "Let users turn on enterprise mode from the Tools menu" Set this to "Enabled"

  3. Next policy we will modify is "Use the Enterprise Mode IE website list". Set this to "Enabled" and in the option area, we will set the file name it will refer to. We can either use a URL, or a local file. For the purposes of this article we will use a file path. File path I will use is "file///c:\Sitelist.xml"

  4. Next we will need to create the sitelist.xml. To do this we will use a utility called "Enterprise Mode Site List Manager", available from Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42501

After downloading and installing, run the program. In the program we will click the "Add" button. In the window enter the URL to your Management Platform. Set the "Launch in" options to IE9 Document Mode.

  5. Click File > Save to XML, and name the file as "Sitelist.xml" and put that file in the directory specified in step 3.

  6. Restart Internet Explorer and load the Symantec Management Console.

This step will need to be performed on every machine effected, unless this is done by a network administrator to the whole network via the global policies.

Thanks so much David! This solution has allowed our infrastructure group to continue to manage the Monitor and Alerting Console in 7.5SP1HF5, however I have discovered that I need to toggle the Enterprise Mode off in Internet Explorer Tools menu in order to download packages in the Patch Remediation Center. (Once you have implemented the above fix, a check in front of Tools, Enterprise Mode turns it off temporarily.) Hope this helps someone else as it took me awhile to figure out this was the problem!
