Following are the Workspace Virtualization highlights of this HF:
What issues are you talking about, and how long have your company been using swv, and on what OS where you having all your problems? My company has been using around 400 swv packages on 13000 computers since late 2012 on Windows 7x64, and we have sorted out almost every problem there so maybe your technical skills have been to low from the beginning? We were lucky to get some of the best in the business during our start-up, and that’s why we managed to deliver all our big apps with SWV. Sure it's been a lot of work, but the endgame where always in our mind. Easy deployment and removal of software, App-V 4.6 was the thing back then, and it did not manage to virtualize the amount of software that Swv could do when we started our migration project.
There were also some really buggy swv agents when 7.5 started so that's why we stayed with 6.4 and some high hotfix until it where stable enough to migrate to 7.5 Our problems with SWV started on Windows 10 and SWV 7.6 when Ms introduced App-V into the OS mix, and then we started poking into App-V.
But after working with App-V for about a year I’m not too pleased about the product.
Sure it can do most of the easy applications without integrations to other programs without problems, but the share number of severe bugs we have encountered the last months does not make me too happy about the product and too sure about its future. The worst was the introduction to container based registry when most of our old sequenced apps started failing, and the other was the corruption of registry when using connection groups.
And why is App-V more virtualized than SWV, do you think about App-V's default total isolation, well SWV can do that if you want to, but for most use cases it's not needed. App-V is more rigid and for environments with several 100 programs and a lot of computers, the complex matrix of connection groups and runvirtual keys will make use of all your time. One wrong design decision and something won't work.
Best decision ever for getting this tool EOL. All issues at our company, are caused by SWV.
People who say that App-V is behind, or worse to SWV, don't know how Application virtualisation work. (ok your technical level for app-v an thinapp need to be a lot higher than when using SWV)
App-v and even Thinapp are far better than SWV. SWV is not even build for application virtualisation. The experts even told us to use SWV only when having issues with fysical installations.
After I renamed the FSLRDR file, I was able to install all the SWS software.
Is there a utility to convert the FSLRDR layers to the 7.6.0269 format, or have I got to reinstall all my application layers from scratch?
Thanks in advance for your help
Hi
I downloaded the lastest trial version on wednesday 14th march, and got a fatal error trying to install it on windows 10 buil 1709
Hello, viddect, I installed SWV 7.6.0.269 on Windows 10 Pro 1709, and it's hanging on when I capture the installation of application, according to this article
https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/workspace-virtual-composersvsadmin-error-when-capturing-applications-windows-10-build-1703#comment-11922171
This issue won't be fixed, right? If it is, I will return to Windows 10 1607 for I can continue to use SWV. BTW, Appv-V is only supported by Windows 10 Enterprise, whether Symantec can consider consumer market?
Thanks symantec for continuing to provide update for SWV, such a good workspace virtualization software, but EOL, what a pity. ) :
