The Value of Certification and Training – The How (Pt. 3)

Nov 09, 2018 12:13 PM

In the last part of this series of articles I’d like to outline how you can go about getting the training you need to result in a successful certification.

Go back to the previous article (https://www.symantec.com/connect/articles/value-certification-training-what-pt-2) for the link to the Symantec Education website. This forms the basis of where you need to start.

Access the link below to see what training is available from Symantec (or a partner):

https://www.symantec.com/services/education-services/training-courses

This is a pretty comprehensive list of courses and covers most, if not all, of what Symantec offer in the market today. Once you know what you’re looking for, click the link. In my case I have gone for Symantec Data Loss Prevention as this is something I am currently considering pursuing.

This will take you through to your selected course’s details, including what the course details are and what sort of training is available. 2 types of training are offered, namely Classroom Training and a Virtual Academy. Go back to the previous article to find out what each one offers).

If you click on the Course Schedule, you’d be presented with a document that looks like that below. This outlines the types of training per course, as well as who gives it (Symantec or a partner) and the dates and number of days of the course. Very helpful when planning travel if you have too.

Select what you need to and then pursue it.

Another point of additional information is the classroom guide that takes you through what will be discussed in the training. This can (and probably should!) be used to address any issues you might have, or even start getting to know the product beforehand if you don’t know already.

As mentioned before, classroom training places you in a controlled environment with access to the software and/or hardware you will work with. You have direct access to a subject matter expert and, most likely, the option to break-fix the environment.

eLearning allows you to do this sort of training across an Internet connection and on your own time, and can be used to either supplement your classroom training, or as a stand-alone. Either way make use of the Symantec eLibrary as there is generally extra information you can use towards your studies.

Once your study work is complete, it’s time to write your exam. Visit the link below to gain access to all the Symantec exams currently on offer.

https://www.symantec.com/en/in/services/education-services/certification/all-exams

Clicking on the exam you would like to write will give you all the requirements for that exam such as number of questions, duration of the exam and the passing score which are all crucial.

Make sure you check out any available exam study guide as it might give clues to what is expected, or how the exam might be weighted in the sections it deals with.

Lastly…braindumps are readily available, and not advisable at all, and while I’ve seen queries about this on the Connect forums, nobody has answered those. Don’t use them, and don’t ask those kinds of questions here as you will end up getting no help with answers. It’s a shortcut way to certification and won’t help you when you need it most in a crisis at work!

Do the hard yards, and certification will come easily enough.

I look forward to any responses or questions you might have.
Best of luck!
