Connect Mobile FAQs

Mar 14, 2012 10:57 AM

How do I access the mobile site?

Access www.symantec.com/connect. Connect automatically identifies the device you’re using and serves you the mobile site if you are using a recognized mobile device.

What can tasks can I complete on my mobile device?

  • Browsing content
  • Searching content
  • Making comments on content
  • Creating your own blog entry, idea, or forum discussion topic

What devices support the mobile site?

We tested the mobile site on the most recent versions of iOS, Android and Blackberry. Due to the large number of devices we cannot test all of them. We tested using the native browsers on each device. Also, please be aware that the interface may look slightly different depending on the device you are using.

How can I learn more about the navigation on Symantec Connect?

Check out this great screencast.

Are there any known issues with Symantec Connect mobile?

There are a few outstanding minor issues. These should not affect the functioning or usability of the mobile site. These include:

  • Video: the videos appear rather small in the mobile solution. We are working on a solution to adjust the size.
  • Login pages for SymAccount are only available as desktop web pages.

What features of Symantec Connect were out of scope for this first release?

  • Events
  • Group pages
  • Administration functions
  • Rewards redemption
  • Polls
  • Upload for articles, downloads, videos, known issues.
  • Upload of images.
  • Profile (Everything but Viewing Profile details and Private Messages)
  • RSS
  • Filtering on utility list pages
  • Filtering Search results

I use the mobile site on my android phone. I also submitted this idea about the mobile site and would appreciate the community's feedback as well. https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/ideas/mobi...

Thank you, Kevin. Yes, I did test it on HTC Touch 2 with Windows Mobile 6.5. Basic functionality as you said. Not surprised actually. If Microsoft has discontinued its Marketplace for WM devices - it means that the OS has no long-term future. Technology progress never stops :)

Hi UFO,

It looks like Windows Mobile falls under "C-grade" support: "Basic, non-enhanced HTML experience that is still functional."

Sorry, no browser is specified in the spec:

Supported for Windows Mobile 6.5? Which browser to use?

Thanks for your efforts, guys! I see the bug Rob Wilcox mentioned, but aside from that, it looks great. Thanks again, this will be very helpful and convenient.

As mentioned in Kevin's blog - I absolutely LOVE Connect Mobile.

Just one small problem - buttons at the bottom of posts are too big (Mark as Solution, Edit, Delete, etc) - on my BlackBerry Bold they take up an entire screen.

I have reported this during UAT.

I have only an iPod with no 3G and I would like to be able to reach the symantec.com/connect website from local wifi (startyourvpn) here in Mountain View so that I can access my calendar.  Is that something that is on the feature roadmap?

thanks,

Steve

Thanks for the feedback Christopher.

The login screen is part of SymAccount, Symantec's single-sign in technology. We'll forward your feedback to the team that manages that part of Symantec's web presence.

Hi Mark,

We actually decided to take a somewhat revolutionary approach to building Connect Mobile on an HTML5 codebase that supports several platforms.

We based our work on the jQuery Mobile platform. You can read more about jQuery Mobile at http://jquerymobile.com/

To answer your question, we do not currently have plans to write a seprate application targeted at iPad support.

Thanks for your support of Connect!

Will there be a version specific for the iPad or universal for all devices?

Mar 15, 2012 12:28 AM

Hi Rob,

I believe the incorrect comment count was a side-effect of a problem we were having with our index earlier in the day. The index problem is resolved and the comment counts appear to be accurate now.

You may want to submit your enhancement requests for reporting and click behavior to the Ideas section of this communtiy.

Thanks!
Kevin

One quick question ..

Where do I report bugs?

For example... On the archiving and ediscovery forums some of the posts have a speech bubble next to them with a number in it. I take it that number is the number of replies?  Some however show zero, but when I click on them, there are a half a dozen or more.. I can give examples if need be.

Secondly, how about reporting enhancements?

At the moment you have to click on the link / forum-post-title.  It would be nice to be able to click anywhere in the row.
