Contributing to Workflow’s Collaborative Component Pages

Aug 13, 2012 11:02 AM

The release of Workflow 7.5 revolutionizes the concept of community-based documentation by creating component wiki pages for every component included in Workflow. This new component wiki model makes structured, community-based content available at its point of use.

You can access these component pages in the articles section of the Endpoint Management Community. You can also access these component pages from within Workflow Designer that shipped with ServiceDesk 7.5. Once Workflow 7.5 is released, you can access the component pages from within the Workflow Designer.

As a member of the Workflow community, you can earn Symantec Connect points and help others in the Workflow community by adding your knowledge, use cases, and examples to the wiki pages for the components that you use

Symantec will continually add content to these pages. However, we encourage you to submit ideas, use cases, and suggestions to help develop the community based articles.

We hope to maintain a collaborative community to update and continually improve the component pages.

This article contains the following sections:

  • Finding component pages
  • Contributing to component pages

Finding component pages

You can filter the articles from the Endpoint Management Community to find the Workflow component pages.

  1. Log in to Symantec Connect.
  2. Browse to the following location: www.symantec.com/connect/endpoint-management/articles
  3. In the All Authors drop-down, click SymantecWorkflowTeam.
These articles are the component articles that you can help improve by suggesting changes.

Contributing to component pages

Contributing to the component wiki pages expands the knowledge available on Connect, helps keep the information on the pages current, and helps others in the Workflow community as they use Workflow to develop their own projects. If you see any errors on the component pages, please suggest changes.

You can also earn Connect points by contributing to component pages. The Connect points that you earn depend on the type of contribution. If you contribute content to an unpopulated article, you are awarded 100 points. If you suggest a change or addition to an already populated article, you receive between 5-10 points, depending on the size of your contribution.

  1. On the component page, click Suggest Changes.
  2. In the Proposed body text section, provide the information that you want to add or any changes you want to make to existing text.
  3. In the Submitter Comments section, provide a short summary of your additions or changes to help the moderator approve your changes.
  4. Click Submit Changes.
Your suggestions are sent to a moderator for approval. While suggestions wait for approval, no additional changes can be made to a component page. After your changes are approved, they are added and your username will appear in the Contributors list at the top of the article. At that point, you will receive a notification and be awarded Connect points.
