Heads up: ALL Monitor Solution RMS Policies are turned on by default!

Mar 27, 2014 11:36 AM

I have just checked my 7.5 HF4 system and have found that all six "Site Management > Settings > Monitor Service > Advanced > Windows Remote Monitoring Server <architecture> <action>" policies are enabled!

This obviously does not make sense, as the Uninstall policies should only be used either when the Install & Upgrade policies are disabled, or have had their targets changed so that they do not cover the servers that you want to target the uninstall process against.

I've created an incident for this case.

Thank you!

Thank you for clarifying this confusing console display.

After checking the uninstall targets I have found that they use the "Local computers requiring Remote Monitoring Server uninstallation" filter which uses the folloiwng query:

SELECT [Guid] from fnGetSiteServicesToUninstall('C2500AF3-EA8E-4EE6-9E0B-42040F03ABD5', 'Altiris Monitor Agent RMS')

PS:  The x64 uninstall policy target name is different to that of the x86 one, which is most likely a typo which should have been picked up in QA:

x64 = "Windows Servers required Remote Monitoring Server uninstallation x64"

x86 = "Windows Servers requiring Remote Monitoring Server uninstallation x86"

Hi SK,

these policies are enabled by default, because:

1. Install RMS rollout policy only arrives to server machine, if admin has added this server as "Monitor Service" (Site Server) ⇒ ( You think that admin will enable and disable RMS rollout policy after each time he add/remove Monitor Service?)

2. Uninstall RMS rollout policy only arrives to server machines, where RMS (Monitor Service) is already installed and admin has removed "Monitor Service" as Site Server from SMP.

3. Upgrade RMS rollout policy is enabled by default and it will arrive to requiring RMS server, where SMA is up-to-date.

We all know that Package Service will be installed on server only if admin will add this server as Site Server (But PS install/uninstall rollout policies are hidden)

Same for Task Server rollout mechanism as for PS rollout.

Thanks,

IP.
