How to Get SVS or SWV ? Where to Download SVS 2.1, SWV 6.1 and 7.x!

Jun 03, 2009 01:02 PM

I think a lot of people, like me, spend a lot of time try finding how to get those download:

  • Latest Symantec workspace Virtualization, SWV 7.6, that is advanced SVS version, is integrated with the Altiris client management suite CMS 7.  (Yes, it was also named "SVS PRO")
  • Notice 1: This package includes the "Wise Virtual Composer", and both x86+x64 versions.
  • Notice 2: This link currently also includes SWS (Streaming) and SWC (Corporate) seems not any more maintain.
  • [please vote my post if you use it ;-]

Story: I was thinking only SVS 2.1 (Software Virtualization Solution) was integrated into the "Client Management Suite 7". But this is not the case and SWV 6.1 (Symantec Workspace Virtualization) must not be paid in addition.

Free home license: Both SVS 2.1 "light" version & SWV are still free personal use. I suggest you use now the latest SWV 7.6
(And not any more the SWV 6.1 SP7, that is version 6.4.1346, or SP8, it is 6.4.1895! Yes, Symantec was doing this strange version naming - But now back to a more "normal" convention. We jump over from 6.4 to 7.5, don't look for any 6.5 ... 7.0, 7.1 or 7.2 .... 7.4 versions, were never existing :).

CMS 7.5 HF3, includes SWV 7.5.522, Got now a better integration then 7.0, and also a few better with 7.5:

DONE & checked for 7.5, must verify for 7.6

  • 1st: SEEMS TO DATE => Yes we got the same version level the integrated CMS 7.5 with latest single download - HURRA !!
(We can hope will keep updated, using auto-update like patch solution... or a patch from SIM, as it is design for?)
Hope next latest version: will not have to manual download and import the MSI file into your CMS7 Software components.
  • 2nd: should be OK (to check): Valid detection rules, not integrated  (issue should solved with 1st
    785f9a4d-d113-43b3-aa1d-77ad777f0a2f     is 6.4.1266 x64
    f0903be8-e528-405d-8ae5-2a4c7048827a   is 6.4.1266 x86
    dcc5b9e2-d918-4b9d-93ff-062d8ab987ee    is 6.4.1346 x64
    501521FB-3E60-4E95-BE79-A7E7D8119721 is 6.4.1895 (thanks Nicolas H.)
The good news, Symantec stop using the same MSI Product code all builds: So you do not need any more to add a detection "rule" from "uninstall" Windows registry. The "BAD": under the condition you are able to extract the MSI: because with the EXE install package, when import into ALTIRIS7, you do not get any MSI code, or any repair/remove command line autobuild... See 4th!
  • 3rd: agent Policy is now in the platform like others agents. (as long as latest version included, hope Symantec will keep it updated there....)
You were before needing to create your own policy; because integrated ones. Hope next update will integrated also...
=> If you purely replace existing to reuse provided default policies: and replace the physical package... Be aware possible later update failure, (I see the case with the MP1/sp2 CMS)

What can remain doing better:

  • 4th: EXE package instead of MSI (issue mitigated if 1st solved)
From 6.3 (and laters) are only EXE file (you can not unzip), so you need to start the EXE, extract from the temp directory (%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\SYMANTEC\SEV) the MSI File before exiting the EXE... Why provide an EXE instead of MSI (vote here!)
  • 5th: No detection rules for XPF [That is a MUST]
There is no "detection rule" tool for SWV packages, you should be able to check if installed, activated, etc... That is not the case, must script.

Happy to remove the 6th: auto-generate import/activation commands: I must say thanks for the supported XPF now, previously only VSA file were supported for package import process into CMS 7.1, it works now with XPF files :)

Also thanks for the Policies integration: install/uninstall/upgrade, now available inside the console, no need top build your own, except you update latest.

Information:

Obsolete or Broken:

SVStoSWV_Old2New.gif

SWV 6.1 Officials: but OBSOLETED now...

  • NOT THE LATEST ANY MORE, but still official link (at 2014-02-17, recheck at 2016-03-03, still obsolete):
availabe from the official link:  http://go.symantec.com/sevdownloads/ is still the
Go back the FTP site below to get latest SP8 MP2, but it is not more the latest 7.5...
  • You will see a list to give another chance to wrong: Just guess which is the good one...
    Symantec Workspace Virtualization 6.1 SP8 MP1 122 MB
    Symantec Workspace Streaming 6.1 SP8 MP1 586 MB
    Symantec Workspace Corporate 6.2 MP2 75 MB
Symantec Workspace Streaming SDK 6.1 SP1 32 MB
    ... Guess it?
Yes, it was the 1st one, Else download directly the KB below:
    SWV 6.1 SP8 MP1 (that is 6.4.1711 verified at Oct 10, 2012), from http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO77642 enlightened
  • cool OBSOLETE: Another less official download source:
From 2010-10-05, there were also a FTP site to use, for a more latest version, from time to time:
ftp://exftpp.symantec.com, login: sevrelease, pwd: S!m4NT3c [changed credential, not working any more... Any update ?]
(see on obsolete KB DOC3208) AND latest working, it was NOT  any more the latest: only 6.4.1895 (6.1 SP8 MP2) check on 2014-02-17, 126MB

SWV 7.6 Officials...

so How to get the latest SWV 7.6.0.112 version, without installing a full Client Management Server 7.6 (about 2GB, 3h install...) !

Just go there: asking for a trialware o the Symantec Workspace, that is the single option I found

All the same from official product page:

https://www.symantec.com/products/threat-protection/endpoint-management/workspace-virtualization

We connect to the base version without latest Hotfix... :(

https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=55183
File Size
Symantec Workspace Virtualization 7.6 137 MB That is containing SWV
Symantec Workspace Streaming 7.6 639 MB Streaming server + SWV included

And if you want the latest version describe into the latest HF2 release note in attachment this post: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO124437

  • 7.6.0.160 (HF1)
  • 7.6.0.180/181 (HF2)

Well, just open a case at Symantec, and tell me, because I don't find it ! I suppose that is what we can name "collective stupidity", too much big for agility ?... All official web pages jump to obosolete doc & versions...

  • Yes: Hotifx version are not "indexed", probably some KB existing, but only provided after "support" agreement... Hotfix such dangerous ?
  • I will be glad to share here, as soons as possible !! (and mention you, of course) call +41793092886, mail symantec@kotte.net, @pkotte...

History

Evaluation & CMS 7 users license fixed key:

A new evaluation Key is available from the SP3, is also the key for integrated CMS7 usage (but symantec can also send you another key, I suggest using your own key) :

  • cyvwe-wm64b-m58u2-nrpv2

SVS 2.1 Officials: and probably obsolete version should not use any more...

Seems we are now freeze this version will stop any update:  [last checked 2010-01-28]

Version 2.1 license fixed keys for CMS and Free home usage:

  • That is providing currently a fixed serial for all home user is: b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4  ;-)
  • For CMS7 customers, the fixed serial for installing SVS is: byv5a-wkyrb-k99w6-8db04

I suppose those links will be oboslete in a future, because "altiris.com" instead of "symantec.com". So please, I suggest you subscribe this post & as soon as you find a "new" good download area, just add in there or message me! (So I can correct this post ;-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installing tricks:

EXE install

  • Yes, of course, was too much simple to keep it as a MSI ! So now place to an EXE... You can probably track the temp place the EXE extract the MSI to redo as a MSI (Check the folder "C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SEV" sub temp folder to see the extracted package (msi admin) when you run the exe)
  • else, the silent option for the EXE is "/s" :)
    Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization_x64.exe /s SWV.ADDLOCAL=Altiris_NS
(Manual writed need to provide a SWV.PRODUCT_KEY=<code> is mandatory => not true, also Reboot really suppress not necessary)
  • Be aware the EXE version install the VCREDIRECT 2008 (Visual C++ Runtime v9) if missing, not sure the MSI does.

Be care:

  • MSI code for SVS are the same number for all SVS 2.1 revisions {7D8DBB7C-1C55-4950-A107-043C164F379A},
so the CMS7 default package import is not giving sufficient "detection rule" to distinguish correct versions. :-(
  • SVS 2.1 installer does not detect conflict previous install of a SWV 6.1 version: you will get bad surprise (I do this by accident, this remove all my layers, not reset: remove them from manage, but keep files fsldr on disk. Upgrade from 2.1 to 6.1 seems ok, but I do not try with latest).
  • NS6/SMP7/CMS: For integrating SVS or SWV agent install with an existing NS Altiris agent (either version 6 or version 7), just add "ALTIRIS_NS=1" property parameter: eg.
msiexec /qb /i svsagent.msi PRODUCT_KEY=b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4 ALTIRIS_NS=1

Oh my god... How many people believe me when explain only SVS 2.1 was included with CMS suite ???

Correct this please: In fact, SWV 6 is included with the CMS suite license. (All the same only SVS 2.1 version was provided).

Just some "grey" communication from Symantec

Yes you can. smiley

I have download "SWV_6_1_SP6_MP1_6.3.2059",which license key should I use for free personal use(not for evaluation).

Can I use old license key valid for Altiris SVS 2.1 "b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4"?

Dec 08, 2010 03:47 PM

The Key from the TXT file for evaluation is:

cyvwe-wm64b-m58u2-nrpv2

But when you install the package, it is provided with the predefine

axgbe-1268w-s385j-e4pv2

I suppose you can choose yours :)

IDEA:

Symantec should allways provide a MSI for install package

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/fr/idea/symantec-should-allways-provide-msi-install-package

Complain to sales and support, those go to PM.

So do ideas here on connect.

Nov 19, 2010 11:25 AM

you run the EXE, lets open do not "next" or quit, and see the extracted files in there:

C:\documents & settings\all users\symantec\sev\*\Symantec_Workspace_Virtualization.msi

No, you can use 7ZIP to the open EXE package, but useless: It is an horrible: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package...

Please, some body can tell SWV products managers we would prefer a MSI version !!!

More compatible CMs 7.0 import tool ! angry

So you're allowed to post a link to that support article but not allowed to post the direct link or passwords to the FTP site because they have and will be changing before it's up in the public download location.

The FTP password changed already once since that location went live and it will be changing again early next week (they're only good for a few days) and the location of the FTP might change as well.

So to avoid confusion we'd like you to no post the passwords or FTP site because they will change but instead just post the link to that article.

Hope this clears up confusion.

Oct 29, 2010 01:05 PM

humm.  Odd. I'll have to see what's going on as there appears to have been a communication mix up here.  I don't believe that article is supposed to have that info in it.

Oct 29, 2010 06:29 AM

Hi Jordan, ohzone... I feel you think I should not publish those credentials, but others @Symantec think I can ???

Here it is:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC3208

Download Location

This release is available on the Support FTP site:

ftp://exftpp.symantec.com
UID: sevrelease
PWD: S!m4NT3c

Filenames are:

SWV_6_1_SP6_MP1_6.3.2059.zip (Workspace Virtualization Standalone)

Oct 29, 2010 02:56 AM

Hi Jordan, sorry, I understand this was a temp download, so I put in comment, not in Article revision. I will do later when final source location will be available. But when I read the Symantec information, I do not get any "confidential" mention, and was thinking it was ok to show there.

Thanks your undertanding. For all others who wanted to download, contact your sales Symantec partner, or Symantec if you are the Partner.

(if you are my customers or GUASF members, just contact myself or go the GUASF pages), Enjoy SWV in x64 ;-)

Oct 29, 2010 02:25 AM

Hello, using Firefox + fireFTP, I just add a "Quickconnect", but with the correct login & password, was removed from there on Symantec request. Please ask for those credentials your contacts, where are you from ? Language speaking ?

Oct 28, 2010 12:17 PM

Please don't post these links.

They are temporary locations only and until we get them posted on the public download site, which takes a few days, you'll need to contact sales or support to get the build.

Oct 28, 2010 11:22 AM

Using Link with Firefox -> Empty page

Using Link with IE -> i see /pub - when i goto /pub/support/products/Workplace_Virtualization/ there are just two index files.

Any direct link, that will ask for the password?

Oct 28, 2010 05:20 AM

Not a good news ! Thanks for the warning !

Just to clarify something, x64 packages that are made with the Beta will need to be repackaged with the release version of SP6 (not the one that was pulled) to work with the final SP6 release.

Oct 13, 2010 09:37 AM

I see one of the Specialist SWV Symantec in EMEA, last week at Barcelona.

The final release is postpone because of a few bugs. Symantec prefer to delay. I must say I agree Symantec to postpone,

and allow every people to access & use the beta version for free: that is a better approach than releasing a bugged version.

If you need to "pre-package" in x64 software, because of the prepare a Windows 7 x64 migration... As every body... I suggest you use the latest BETA version: 6.3.1.45

If you don't arrive to get acces the beta, just answer this post.

Oct 08, 2010 03:11 PM

Thank you for your reply. Should I assume from your lack of responding to the x64 information that there is no comment at this time as to the release date and no indication if functionality will differ greatly from the Community Preview?

Thanks again.

Oct 07, 2010 01:22 PM

It is 100% free for personal use, we just don't have a consumer branch so it's the same download for everyone.

The "trial" license never expires for SWV so enjoy.

Oct 06, 2010 06:26 PM

First of all, thank your for this resource. I would like to know, reading this blog indicates to me that SWV 6.1 SP4 is free for home personal use. However, when I follow links provided, I find that I am asked questions about my company (that I dont have) in order to access the download page, when I do finally download it I am given a trial license in the zip and instructed to contact my sales agent for licensing. Is there a clearly defined process/link for accessing the free personal use license? Also, is the x64 Customer Preview slated for a release date (specifically is it close enough to be use for a review)?

Thank you

Sep 27, 2010 03:48 PM

The 6.3.1.45 is in Beta, you can register for.

I believe the 6.3 mixed x86 & x64 bit will be a little bit later on, because of some problems... Perhaps any relation this KB.

Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite 6.1 SP4 MP1 release notes

Applies To

  • Workspace Streaming (formerly AppStream) 6.1
• Workspace Virtualization (formerly SVS) 6.1

Workspace Streaming build number: 6.2.0.1005
Workspace Virtualization build number: 6.2.1.1575
Wise Virtual Composer build number: 6.2.0.1005

See article # 53124, Symantec Endpoint Virtualization Suite 6.1 SP4 Release Notes, for installation instructions, known issues, and additional information.

This maintenence pack is a full installation and can be upgraded to directly from 6.1 SP4. This release addresses the issues listed in the Fixes in this release section of this document.

Important notice for customers who have downloaded 6.1 SP4 MP1:

During recent development work we discovered an issue that prevents packages that are created in 6.1 SP4 MP1 from being forward compatible with 64-bit operating systems. This issue causes file system paths that exist in the registry to not be variabilized. This issue prevents some 32-bit packages from executing correctly on 64-bit operating systems.

The download link to 6.1 SP4 MP1 has been temporarily removed until a resolution is determined. If you have installed 6.1 SP4 MP1, we recommend reverting to 6.1 SP4 on all computers that are used to create packages, as 6.1 SP4 is not affected by this issue. Please subscribe to this article for future updates.

Fixes in this release

Fixed an issue that in rare circumstances caused packages to be streamed to users that were not provisioned for the package.

Fixed an issue that was causing virtual applications that contain services to delay startup .

Fixed an issue that prevented cyclic group provisions from being received correctly.

Fixed an issue that prevented certain ACLs from being properly copied to the user SID area.

Fixed an issue that caused a crash when SWV was installed on the Windows 7 SP1 beta.

Fixed an issue that prevented virtual layers that contain services from launching correctly at startup.

Fixed an issue that caused increased CPU utilization when a virtual layer is missing user SIDs.

Fixed an issue that caused read-only registry keys that existed only in the layer to be copied to the base when a change was made by a process running from the base.

Sep 27, 2010 12:03 PM

I am impatient to see the result !

Sep 24, 2010 04:40 AM

Hi Pascal,

Thankyou for your reply. I think I understand what you mean, create a dummy package and use the XPF as an 'upgrade' to this package? I will have a go at this today. I will workout the SVSCMD command and let you know how I get on.

Many thanks!

Liam

Sep 23, 2010 04:05 PM

Hi LIAM, you should create a new forum post for this ;-)

I do not try yet, but as usual, I believe the such "not out of the box" SVS/SWV Symantec CMS7 integration, is still not "finished".

  • We will have to create a new "software component", without import the PXF.
  • Create manually the package, from the EDIT of the new Software component you were creating
  • add the XPF
  • create the install command line (SVSCMD something?)
  • Associate the software component => as update: to the VSA Full Software component you want to update

In the Soft manage policy of the full VSA deploy, activate the "update"...

Tell me if this answering (a part). Best regards. Pascal.

Sep 23, 2010 05:56 AM

Hey guys

I have created an XPF file with SWV 6.1 SP4 but after adding it as a package in CMS7 and trying to create some command lines I can't see XPF as an available Installation Source Type...

I am running the latest official release of CMS 7... I've tried using the VSA as the source type but that doesnt work. Anyone know a work round or when CMS will support it?

Thanks

Liam

Sep 11, 2010 06:17 PM

So now...

the latest official called "6.1 SP4" has the build 6.2.1562

the KB https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=53948&p=1

told about Workspace Virtualization build number: 6.2.1.1575 ?

that is the 6.1 SP4

the Kb https://kb.altiris.com/display/1n/kb/article.asp?aid=19961&link=

does not talk about...

Well, please Jordan, can you suggest the next x64 support revision, to be named 7.1.xxxx ?

After 2 years waiting, we could make such a jump in the revision number, instead of calling build 6.2 as 6.1 sp4 ;-)

Sep 11, 2010 06:07 PM

And yes, 1 more year we were waiting for it !

Sep 11, 2010 04:28 PM

Bad news, it is not the 6.2 version one. Not a big problem but you must update manualy. As Symantec does not provide "tools" to manage SWV deployment inside CMS7. You have the right to use, but need to be a "wise people" to be able to use :-(

So still need to dowload from the link I give above ;-)

Jul 06, 2010 04:32 AM

Group Ownership: Endpoint Management Solutions Beta
Probably Andy dor not open the article to "public"...
We can not see this on the article, I should logout before, to test it :-)

I hope not giving a secret below, but I kindly suggest you ask for BETA program before testing any beta version.
Any way, you need to create a beta account to be able to download.

I would love to follow the link, but the access is restricted.
Any idea?

Apr 21, 2010 02:56 PM

6.2 is being renamed to 6.1 SP4 I believe, it might be SP5.

Apr 19, 2010 12:04 PM

But still 6.1 version, no 6.2 or 6.3, and no 64bits support angry
What's going on Symantec ???

Apr 16, 2010 02:46 AM

Any progress on the 6.3 ?
whan can we await a final release?

Mar 23, 2010 11:31 AM

The SWV 6.3 preview is 64-bit.

SWV 6.2 beta is 32-bit.

The confusion comes from the fact that we did the 6.3 preview before the 6.2 beta.

Mar 21, 2010 07:21 PM

You are right, it is (not yet) an addon. You can not install from the SIM.
So you must download it from the link this article, and manually use it onto CMS7, without prepackaged SIM integrated.
You must use the public property "ALTIRIS_NS=1"in the SWV installation on a PC CMS7 client (I told in this article).
So, the basic inventory from NS agent will collect also layers list & status from you PC into CMS7.

For sure, Symantec can do better for that integration ;-)
Is it clear enough?

Mar 21, 2010 07:18 PM

I see the beta 6.2 announce, but seems still only 32 bits :-(

Supported Platforms
Endpoint operating systems
32-bit editions of the following operating systems:
  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista and Windows Vista SP1
  • Windows XP SP2 or SP3 (If using SP2, Workspace Streaming requires the filter manager rollup hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914882. SP3 is required when using a non-English language XP operating system)
  • Windows Server 2008 (Workspace Virtualization only) and Windows Server 2003 SP1 or later when used as an endpoint.

But in the same time, I see a registration proposal for the 64 edition in there
https://symbeta.symantec.com/callout/apply.html?callid={F0D8E0C4-56BD-4DD0-B2A2-707933A590E0}
So we can hope... and hope...
To be out before the launch of windows 8 ! ;-)

Mar 09, 2010 02:55 PM

How far away is 64 Bit support on Windows 7?

Jan 28, 2010 05:03 AM

"Latest SWV 6.1 that is advanced SVS version, is an addon of the Altiris CMS 7"
There are no SWV to choose in the Symantec Installation Manager of the SMP 7.0, so how can it be a addon to CMS 7.0?

Jan 28, 2010 04:25 AM

Isee. It is a market segment Symantec was not thinking off I think. For my home, I prefer using the cloud computing. Most use of Google docs & similar. But the problem is the Internet dependancy. This can be a good idea, but need a lightest version. Not every body will have a 64 bit Windows 2008 server at home.
Best regards ;-)

Jan 28, 2010 04:19 AM

I do not see any mention of the Windows 7 support from Symantec !
Dos anybody test it? I use SWV 6.1 for W7. But for those only buy CMS7, only SVS 2.1 is included, not SWV 6.1 !!!

Jan 18, 2010 03:39 PM

I've not heard any plans doing such.

If you want something like this create and idea here on connect and vote it up.

Jan 15, 2010 02:56 AM

I'd also very much like to use Symantec Workspace Streaming at home.
I have a many PC's in each room one and dont having to install/update stuff on all would be extreamly convinient.

Actually I could see having a server at home pushing / streaming apps to your wife and children coming in very handy. Not to mention the kewl factor. Also it might a help a person understand the tech behind the scenes allowing them to make better informed decisions and purchase recommendations to their current position or future employers / consulting gigs. So in short no I was not kidding.

Jan 06, 2010 08:41 AM

Hi, FYI,
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/downloads/svs-multi-tool-v15
This can backup all layers one step... thanks a lot to FrankB !

Jan 06, 2010 08:36 AM

Ok I update it, thanks William from KB Altiris support for correcting the KB, after my request ;-)

Jan 06, 2010 08:35 AM

Hi Lee, are you joking? You want to install a Streaming server with Workspace Virtual, for home usage ???
The stand-alone SWV 6.1 is free to use at home. I don't think Symantec was thinking for a Workspace streaming server for home usage !!! ;-)

Jan 06, 2010 12:08 AM

Does anyone know if this too is free for personal use?

Jan 05, 2010 07:13 PM

I Must repeat the upgrade from SVS 2.1 to SWV 6.1.4063, was OK, also with this Office2007 VSA, no "all resetting" my Virtual layers. That is the upgrade from 6.1 RC to final version that was reset all my layers. That's why I do not think opening a case for an non standard upgrade. (We should allways remove beta/RC version, not "upgrading" to a final, I was just a little bit lazy to export all my 30 layers, reimport them after... Hey, I should build a batch for doing such? Any body already do one?).

Jul 31, 2009 06:24 AM

Hi, we are Symantec Gold partner with 10 support tickets a year, but I will not consume one for this. Not without verifying I can reproduce this problem another time, other systems. If I reproduce & got Customer problem, we will open one.  If other people report similar issue in there (or other place in connect) we can think to investigate & I can deliver this VSA to Symantec if they want.
I must say my Office 2007 VSA is in French, and the initial 800MB VSA is build for a preintegrated onevent initial import MSI install capture to build on each machine a "fresh" true MSI install/upgrade of Office. (Yes I follow your article to build a Meta folder with all the Office CD, update/sp & tools like copyfonts etc...:)
(the resulting VSA after initial deploy is 2.5+ GB size... !)
Not sure also this VSA is the cause of the "all layers reset" during the install/upgrade from SWV 6.1.4063 (RC) to SWV 6.1.4108... So I will not go in further for the moment. I just publish here to see if others got same. Thanks a lot your answer & participating Jordan.

Jul 30, 2009 10:42 AM

possibly.  Do you have paid licenses (non free user)? because I'd contact support, they'll probably want to see that VSA and see if we can find the problem.

Jul 30, 2009 02:15 AM

Hi Jordan - Yes I do a start the search services that was activated from my virtual office 2007 - and I do a stop this service after stopping this Office 2007 layer. I have also an error in this office layer : (Because I change the login from the initial capture to the normal use). "Identity Switch Cancelled"
imagebrowser image
But all the same cannot remove this warning, My Outlook is working correctly.

Did you think this layer can be the problem of the upgrade resetting all layers ?
Thanks.

Jul 28, 2009 01:07 PM

Probably a bad install or a bad layer, or there's something else causing this issue that I'm not aware of.  I can't reproduce this with using trinket and upgrading from 4063 to 4108.

Also, for some reason, do you have any onEvent actions set up to Reset your layers?

Jul 27, 2009 06:01 PM

And also: when I want to try to make a new reset point with the "copy current user's settings to default ..." (I test for a few layers repeat same error...)
I got the message:

Error during attempt to retrieve current user SID

Perhaps I should try a repair... But don't want to redo all my serttings :-(
I give you this in case relation this problem, probably a "bad install" !?

Jul 27, 2009 05:49 PM

I wanted to say: all my layers were "reset" (that is what I mean in "crashing all my RW layers" = the upgrade just empty them).
I use Windows 2003 Standard (all MS updated), SP2
(yes this not XP: for a demo DS/NS machine it is a little bit better than doing a w2003 VM on an old D630 laptop...:).
I was having the trinkjet 1.0.0.11 installed also.
And here the application log during MSI install latest MP1 SWV 6.1:

Hay Pascal,

Care to explain exactly what happened (crashing RW layers?) and how your layer was set up because this could be an issue that needs to be looked at.  OS version and anything that's on your base that's security software will be helpful.

There's got to be something causing this because a regular upgrade from 4063 to 4108 does not cause any issues with the layers in any of our tests.

Jul 26, 2009 12:35 PM

I upgrade to 6.1.4108 from my previous RC 40xx not official version - And this was crashing all my "RW" layers. Not such a critical problem, if you correctly setup exclusions to write all critical data in "physical" disk. But if you want to upgrade the latest above, & want to avoid reconfigure all your Office 2007 stuff... (like me), just export you layer before, or "New Reset Point..." before !
Good luck. Please just reply this to tell me if you got the same issue ? Thanks.

Jul 26, 2009 11:54 AM

And it is great improvement, such cool to be able to immediat move data from "RW layer" to "Read only" layer, with the option to take or not, the "user profile/registry" data...
I love this tool.  I test all links & update my initial post above - But just tell me if any error.
Oh, Symantec, I give the fixed SVS personal use serial in there because we can access it without providing registration. So I don't think it is not legal to do that, but if I am wrong, please bare on me, justt tell, I will remove it. (But not from 1 to 24 August, I will be on vacation :-). Enjoy all.

Jun 28, 2009 11:20 AM

Why no registry excludes, this would be a very very usefull feature?

Jun 24, 2009 04:41 PM

Hi, I do not see this in the current revision. ;-)
Oops, just read your answer Jordan after my post . Thanks the confirmation.... (How can I delete a comment ??? Well I can edit, not delete !)

Jun 24, 2009 03:20 PM

No registry excludes in 6.1.

Jun 24, 2009 02:22 AM

Thats Great news
Thank you so much.

Is the download available stable and more or less safe to use (in termos of how safe a unfinished thing can be), or are there some major issues?

Some long long time ago I remember that there ws talk on the old altiris forum that a next version of SVS would have Registry excludes.
But I cant find it in the unofficial download, will it be added? is it there just somehow hidden?

Jun 23, 2009 04:25 PM

But it was a Symantec employee giving me this link (But I will not give the name, all the same under the "torture" (?), I will change my post (again)

Jun 23, 2009 04:17 PM

6.1.4063 is not a public release or a final build in any regaurd.  When 6.1 is released we'll let you all know.

Jun 23, 2009 04:12 PM

Hi Jordan, thanks a lot for the news. I will change my publish. Please also confirm us: as I think 6.1.4063 Build is a final & published...(Well, I hope so !)
Please Jordan confirm me I do not publish a "private" link fot this download ?
Well, probably I am thinking it is not a private, but sure a lot, lot confidential...
If you don't believe me - Just try (as I do a few days before), to find this download yourself, starting from www.symantec.com ...
If you got it: please give the exact "clic" sequence you were using. So I can train myself "how to navigate into Symantec"... I hope this will change soon ;-)

Jun 23, 2009 03:23 PM

Yes it will be.

Jun 23, 2009 03:39 AM

is SWV 6.1 still free for personal use?

Jun 22, 2009 04:50 AM

Just a stupid question. Is the 6.1.4063 Build still the RC1 release or the official final public release?
Thanks for clarification.

Jun 04, 2009 04:29 PM

Sounds imminent! Thanks Jordan. :)

Jun 04, 2009 04:14 PM

So long... Can told us how much soon will be able to get those SWV 6.1 - ??? ;-)

Jun 04, 2009 04:01 PM

How's Sooner then Soon? ;)

Jun 03, 2009 04:36 PM

Yes it is OK to ask...
But I hope also an answer ;-)  I believe, "soon", pretty soon... as the RC is a few weeks old for now. But no date I have ! Any body else Jordan ?
see www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/where-can-i-download-swv-61-rc1

Jun 03, 2009 04:06 PM

Is it OK to ask when SWV will be available?

Jun 03, 2009 01:06 PM

The Get SVS page that Pascal mentions is currently being updated so the link and all links pointing to it are broken. When the updated information is available we'll turn that page back on and let you know. Meanwhile, thanks for these helpful links! Spread the word! Great work Pascal!

Thanks!
Cheryl
