 ¬Joel I - 1:12 PM¬

Q: ¬I feel very comfortable in my understanding and skillset with Deployment Solution 6.9 and was disappointed that the same type of certification offered for ITMS was no longer available for DS. Do you plan on offering certification for the GSS 3.0 Product ?¬

A: ¬The education program in Symantec is going through a major review. Certification is being worked on but I think it'll be a while before everything falls into place.¬

 ¬John M - 1:16 PM¬

Q: ¬Will you be improving the TFTP process so it can be tuned for faster transfers?  I use a separate TFTP server and can download a wim file in under 10 seconds.  The MTFTP with GSS3.0 is very slow.¬

A: ¬We have this in our backlog to be addressed, we know it's slow and are looking to improve things.¬

 ¬Mike G - 1:17 PM¬

Q: ¬Is the installation of GSS 3.0 supported when installed into a virtual environment?¬

A: ¬Yes¬

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Ira R - 1:17 PM¬

Q: ¬Is Windows 2003 Server still supported ?¬

A: ¬We did not test Windows Server 2003 as it's about to go out of support. ¬

 ¬Joel I - 1:20 PM¬

Q: ¬There are several instances in our environment where we leverage Automation Partitions withing the DS 6.9 product.  If you plan on continuing to offer this feature, are there plans to make it fully compatible with native UEFI ?¬

A: ¬Yes we still support this functionality and are working on improvements to make sure it's 100% compatible.¬

 ¬Shawn S - 1:22 PM¬

Q: ¬Thin clients and thin install.  Where is there more information on this?   ¬

A: ¬Page 347 of the user guide¬

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Tony G - 1:24 PM¬

Q: ¬is there a plan to allow the share to be on a seperate drive from the software install?¬

A: ¬Managing shares in different locations can be implemented in a few different ways. You can edit the path field in a deployment job to be any location you wish. Also, additional drive locations can be mapped as part of the preboot build process.¬

 ¬Jose T - 1:24 PM¬

Q: ¬Can the GSS share reside on the same share as WDS Deployment share?¬

A: ¬The GSS install will create the deployment share during install, this must not conflict with any other share on the server. You can map an additional drive to any share you wish however.¬

 ¬Joel I - 1:25 PM¬

Q: ¬Will an individual have the oportunity to use legacy versions of WinPE?  That is, if there is a need for WinPE 3.X instead of WinPE 4.X/5.X will you have the oportunity to use that in place of newer versions of WinPE ?¬

A: ¬In the next version we plan to support multiple versions of WinPE (most likely from 3.1 to 5.x)¬

 ¬Robert S - 1:34 PM¬

Q: ¬ will I be able to run the server and GSS from a virtual server?¬

A: Yes, we support VMware.

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Shawn S - 1:36 PM¬

Q: ¬I missed that why is winpe not included in the pxe boot options by default?¬

A: This is because Microsoft changed the WinPE distribution rights so it can no longer be bundled.

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Sebastian R - 1:35 PM¬

Q: ¬Is GSS 3.0 supporting UEFI PXE boot and legacy PXE boot in parallel?¬

A: ¬Yes.

 ¬Justin P - 1:42 PM¬

Q: ¬Can a webcast be made showing how to setup and image Mac OSX with GSS 3.0?¬

A: ¬We will add that to the list. We did document the basic process a while back and more details can be found here: https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO8571.html¬

 ¬Matthew K - 1:49 PM¬

Q: ¬What are the boot settings needed on the DHCP server?¬

A: Option 60.

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Aaron C - 1:52 PM¬

Q: ¬Just to confirm you must use PXE to do Imaging via Pushing. I use to the current 2.5 method without PXE, where ghost pushs the PE to the Computer and reboots.¬

A: ¬We do have an automation option if PXE is not possible, please see the beta portal as there is a thread on this.¬

 ¬Paul L 1:53 PM¬

Q: ¬On 3/25 a question was raised about licensing. Will Altiris 7.5 (with DS) customers pay an additional cost to use GSS 3.0? Will each client in the enterprise require a license?¬

A: ¬Currently the products will need to be purchased separately as there is no bundle, but please talk to your sales rep as we would like to help here as much as possible, especially if you have been receiving DS 6.9 and 7.x as an existing customer.¬

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Adam H - 1:54 PM¬

Q: ¬In the Boot Disk Creator and the PXE config there were greyed-out checkboxes for DOS.  Are you still going to support DOS boot disks for faster PXE transfer vs. WinPE?¬

A: ¬Unfortunately we no longer support DOS and this will be removed at GA.¬

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Ira R - 1:54 PM¬

Q: ¬Will GSS3 still be able to image a XP machine - yes people still have this !!¬

A: ¬Yes it will¬

________________________________________________________________

 ¬Mike H - 1:54 PM¬

Q: ¬Do you recommend installing the GSS Console & SQL Database on different servers?  Will that give it better performance?¬

A: There will be a benefit if you have a large number of machines or you are scheduling jobs frequently. I would recommend trying on a single box first however as the hardware requirements to run the solution are relatively low.

 ¬Vicky N - 1:55 PM¬

Q: ¬Do I download the Win 8.1 ADK even if I do not have any 8.1 machines?¬

A: ¬Yes¬

 ¬Tal F - 1:56 PM¬

Q: ¬There are a lot of tools that are available such as

MDT 2010 with WDS

ITMS7.5 with Deployment Solution 7.5

How is GSS3.0 supposed to fit in the mix or is not supposed to fit in the mix of things as it relates to image deployment?

A: ¬ITMS 7.x is our enterprise, highly integrated and scalable solution. GSS is a more immediate, very deployment focused and satisfying user experience. We have customers using both products in their environments, it really depends on your needs.¬

 ¬Mike G - 1:58 PM¬

Q: ¬Will the Boot Disk Creator be covered in an upcoming webcast?¬

A: ¬We'll add this to the list, thanks¬
