So the HF6 release notes say that the latest deployment plugin is 7.5.1602. How come my deployment solution plugins are versioned at 7.5.1603 for both x86 & x64? See attachment. My filters/targets are not updating properly and the SQL query is saying that the latest deployment plugin is >= 7.5.1602 but yet there is obviously a new version to deploy.

Hi burndtjammer. I sent you an email asking about the details of your support case. Regarding the questions I see about HF6 release date, it is slated to be released next week (end of the month) as was mentioned earlier in the postings.

Apr 24, 2014 02:06 PM

Wow. Either call the bcs manager or the duty manager and complain!

Apr 24, 2014 01:48 PM

I had put in a call for having an issue with adding 64bit drivers to the deploy anywhere driver db.  Tech left a voicemail to call him after installing HF6 next week.  So much for business critical support.

Apr 23, 2014 09:14 AM

"HF 6 is scheduled to be released the end of this month"

That was from Support but they also told me 5.1 was going to be released so take it as it is.

Apr 23, 2014 03:24 AM

Any releasedate for HF6 yet?

Apr 22, 2014 02:41 PM

wow glad i did this in DEV... it is a nightmare to get into Test and Prod for me. Usually when I get going it takes long enough where I get the HF installed and there are 2 or 3 newer ones but I can to go that route as our testing wasnt done... so Ill hold off documenting going to HF5 and wait for HF6... ughhhh

Apr 16, 2014 04:02 PM

Soooooooo....... I just got the word from support they are not releasing HF5.1 but providing the fix in HF6 when that is released.

Got to love it!

Apr 15, 2014 04:46 AM

From what I can see it looks like it's still HF5 that's available. I put HF5 on my dev box shortly after it appeared but I couldn't check it yesterday because it was demanding a reboot! I've now got into and the version numbers are the same...

Apr 14, 2014 01:09 PM

MrSoapsub, I had installed HF5 on my Dev box before it was pulled and I'm showing 7.5.1675.2. Not sure if that helps at all.

Apr 14, 2014 11:18 AM

Well SIM is working again but I'm seeing HF5, not HF5.1. Versions shown are 7.5.1675 for SMP and 7.5.1602 for both Inventory and Deployment Solutions. Can anyone confirm whether these are the version numbers for 5, 5.1 or something else entirely??

Thanks

1.  Yes.  I used the uninstall policy in the console.

2.  Yes.  I waited over 20 minutes, but did not verify the timestamp on the folders to see if they had changed.  I assumed, since the uninstall process would take some time, that they would be updated by the time I pushed out the updated version.  It would have been nice to be able to use the policy to update them instead of an uninstall/reinstall.

3.  Yes.  The result is a BCD error on all Windows XP and Server 2003 machines.  To fix this we booted into the recovery console and did a fixmbr then fix boot.

Apr 10, 2014 12:17 PM

Hi dodgint,

yes, this is infrastructure issue that Symantec IT is currently working on.

Apr 10, 2014 11:03 AM

Yes and I was on with support for a different issue yesterday when we noticed this.  They couldn't get their SIM to work in their HF3 environment or on their laptop.  We took that to mean SIM is down at their end, still experiencing this issue today.

Apr 10, 2014 06:39 AM

yep - looks like the hotfix update installtion needs a hotfix update - I got the problem too

Apr 10, 2014 06:27 AM

Yup - metoo!

Apr 09, 2014 04:30 PM

Is anyone else having a problem with SIM today?

I actually was told the opposite, that its out of the ordinary for it to freeze for so long.

I'm used to it hanging for about 5 minutes and then prompting to refresh.  However, instead of the prompt I got an error that bootwiz encountered an error and needed to close.  Doing a repair of the install of DS 7.5 HF5 fixed the problem.

Apr 09, 2014 11:37 AM

I've run into this exact issue after installing Rollup v8 in DS 7.1.  I've spoken with support about it and they didn't have an answer for me.  They tell me that the driver does install, but it's going to freeze and crash.

Apr 09, 2014 10:21 AM

I had to do a repair on DS HF5.  bootwiz.exe would crash when trying to add drivers to a boot disk in boot disk creator.

Apr 09, 2014 08:29 AM

I am having a simalar problem that appears that the Automation environment is causing BCD boot problems on our XP computers ONLY.  It is random. It appears to start after we upgraded from 7.1 to 7.5 HF4.  It appears that at every polling interval for the automation task, it changes the BCD, eventually it will cause the BCD to corrupt.  It also creates a log on the root of C:\  The BCD boot problem happens after the BCD is corrupt and reboots the computer.  This does not happen to Windows 7

Apr 09, 2014 02:22 AM

Hi Eric,

I have following queries regarding the issue you have faced :

1) Did you un-install the Automation Folder from the NS console after upgrading to HF5 ?

2) Have you re-created all the automation folders after upgrading to HF5 ?

3) Did you try to manually reboot the client machine after un-installing the Automation folder and before re-installing the updated one ?

Thanks & Regards,

Peeyush Dongre

we dont use DS but I did upgrade to HF5 and 0 issues. Server is running just fine...

this is in my DEV env.

Apr 08, 2014 05:53 AM

Hi JannasTo,

In the HF5 release notes (DOC7204), the issue has been documented as fixed. Here is a screenshot for quick reference:

I have zero confidence now in deploying a hotfix without issues. Just came across another issue after the HF4 deployment.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH215510

If I deploy HF5 - will this revert back to the x64 version of DISM ?

Apr 04, 2014 08:14 PM

It looks like uninstalling automation folders on 32 bit machines is preventing them from booting when they are rebooted after the uninstall.  The server 2003 and XP machines in my environment are getting BCD errors after doing this per the HF5 release notes.

Apr 04, 2014 02:33 PM

This has been delayed till middle of next week and have confirmed in the SIM you should see HF5.1.

Apr 03, 2014 01:43 PM

possible it caches to the installs folder in the symantec installation manager folder.... wont know until I try but too busy thus why im going for it on Monday.. cheeky

Apr 03, 2014 01:34 PM

Not that I am aware of

Apr 03, 2014 01:12 PM

Is there a way to download the source code for the HF5 without the SIM?

Apr 03, 2014 11:18 AM

The issue is with the Task Server update. There is a file that is supposed to be removed during the upgrade, but does not get removed, causing the upgrade to fail, bit no failure notice is given. The work around is to reboot the Site Server and then push the upgrade and it will work. The code fix is due out first of next week, so technically it will be HF5.1.

Apr 03, 2014 09:42 AM

going to install it now in our DEV env and do not have a PS... so should be ok...but for the safe side im going to wait until Monday...

Apr 03, 2014 09:21 AM

Same here, but only on a Dev server with no Package Server attached (in regard to jlawson's bug report above).

Apr 03, 2014 09:06 AM

Got an update - the issue was with Package Server Agents and I guess in the Release Notes there is information on how to correct it if you did not wait till Friday.

Apr 03, 2014 08:59 AM

Good to know - Thanks.

Apr 03, 2014 08:47 AM

I'm not going to go into huge details as who told me or how I know I can only say I have an open support case where a fix was put into HF5 for an issue I found in 7.1.  They have been holding this case open for HF5 and an email was sent to me yesterday specifically saying the fix is in HF5 but do not install until Friday because of a known issue in HF5 that is being fixed.

Take it or leave it this is straight from the advanced line.  I'm only trying to help and I will not be installing before Friday no matter what any support tech tells me.

Apr 03, 2014 06:22 AM

I have installed it, Its working Fine

Apr 03, 2014 05:01 AM

Can anyone from symantec confirm this. I have just been told by support to install it. I also see from a forum Post that Sally had a few issues with it as well.

Apr 02, 2014 04:42 PM

Would not recommend an upgrade till after Friday.  I was told a code change will be implemented to fix an issue in HF5.

This is all I know.

Apr 02, 2014 10:19 AM

Link works just fine, thanks for posting.

Apr 01, 2014 07:40 AM

The link seems to be working for me. Please try again.

Apr 01, 2014 06:55 AM

The link does not work!

Apr 01, 2014 05:25 AM

You can access the HF5 release notes from here: DOC7204.

Mar 31, 2014 02:50 PM

One of our team members installed in our dev environment.  No notes were even provided after the install :)

Only comment so far has been a snappier console.

Mar 31, 2014 02:27 PM

I like the logic behind... to allow installation of HF(5) without knowing what is released for

Mar 31, 2014 11:23 AM

There is usually a delay between the release of the acual HF and its associated release notes.

Mar 31, 2014 11:20 AM

Are there details posted regarding this hotfix?
