PGP® Desktop 10.1.1 is now available

Jan 17, 2011 07:24 PM

PGP® Desktop 10.1.1 from Symantec™ is now available and includes a number of updates, and one of the most prominent features is for Mac OS X users. In a nutshell, when Apple pushed out the Mac OS X 10.6.5 and 10.6.6 updates, some of our customers who had PGP® Whole Disk Encryption from Symantec™ experienced a problem that made the machine unbootable. It didn’t affect everybody, but there were certain conditions that caused it to occur with a particular group of users.

First of all, we want to reassure all of you that we tested PGP Whole Disk Encryption on all of the early access developer releases, and we did not see this problem occur. Our engineering and support team diagnosed the problem further, and discovered that the issue arose out of the Mac OS X Automatic Update utility, which disabled PGP Desktop and overwrote critical boot files. The problem wasn’t so much with the operating system update itself, but how the installer performed the update, which led to an unbootable system.

The good news is that PGP Desktop 10.1.1 is now available, and it includes updates to prevent these types of issues occurring in the future. The new protections perform verifications and spots changes in the boot files.

In addition to the fix for the Mac OS X issue, there are a number of customer bug fixes included in this release as well. See the Release Notes for more details about the specific changes. Customers under maintenance and support may download PGP Desktop 10.1.1 from the PGP License and Entitlement Manager.

I have visited all the links above, and there is no such product as PGP Desktop 10.1.1 available for purchase.  There's all kind of Symantec enyryption products, but there is no way to tell which one gives you the license needed to continue to use PGP Desktop 10.1.1.  I have to concur with the comments above: the Symantec website is horrible.  It's not navigable; there is no sense to it, and the terms used are incomprehensible.  I speak English.  It is my first language. But the website, despite being in English, is not understandable.

I am an individual who would like to buy PGP Desktop 10.1.1 for my personal computer.  Could I please have step by step instructions how to do so.  No, I don't have the original emails from Symantec with serial numbers and order numbers.  I would like to start from scratch and buy the software.

Thanks in advance for providing instructions.

I'm using PGP Desktop Home 10.1 (might have done an update to 10.1.1, but I don't know) on Windows 7 Ultimate.

Whole disk encryption was working fine, today I suddenly can't boot up.  I get a line of text that reads

bootguard, followed by a flashing dash, but nothing else happens (no PGP screen to enter passphrase, etc.)

What should I do?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,

Chuck

I am totally confused and just need to know where I can get my update and installation file and manage my registration. As of now there is no way to. Please help

Another user who can't access the new licensing system after the transition from PGP.   Argh.   Will be calling support when they open on Monday.

Brian;

How do I get my new entitlements?  I have tried using my customer number, order number, and LEMS entitlelment number on the Symantec Licence Portal with no luck.  The portal does not show any licences under my account even though I was the administrator for my software in LEMS.

Who do I have to talk to in order to "get your new entitlements" and have the Symantec Licence Portal data populated properly.

I also find the PGP update mechanism awkward, ineffective, and unsuccessful.

I am also unable to see our licenses in the new site. And that info is not in my PGP Desktop anywhere. And you can't access the old site sicne it redirects. Good Catch 22 we're in :-). I was added as a support contact to the PGP site - I'll try ask the original support person if they can do any better.

I really wanted to log a case to re-request a date and commitment to fix Office2010 issues with Netshare. It is corrupting files and totaly unacceptable to not have resolved after all this time...

We've recently transitioned from the LEMS system (which is the PGP legacy system for entitlement management) to the Symantec systems. If you were accessing LEMS before, try accessing the Symantec Licensing Portal.  You'll need to get your new entitlements so that you can download the software from the Symantec FileConnect system.

I went to the LEMS page you suggested and it asks for a Enter the Serial Number, but I only

have my License key which it didn't accept.  I also just renewed my service with PGP so

I should be elligable for the up-grade to 10.1.1.

How do I find it online.  The LEMS had my email address so it knows me.

In fact I was able to login using both my home account and work account.

But there is no evidence that they have a record of either of my home or work PGP

licenses. Any suggestions?

The link that Terry provided is the correct one for the PGP web site.

In case if you're wondering where the release notes are published on the Symantec.com website, they are located here:

Planning to try PGP 10.1 on a test system next week.   Understand this version supports AESNI (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AES_instruction_set).   Expecting a significant performance increase with my system
