Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) adds support for Windows 10 with 12.1.6 MP1.

For Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, a maintenance patch has been released on July 29, 2015. Customers will need to be current on maintenance to receive the maintenance patch update. For more information, visit our SEP 12.1 Windows 10 Knowledge Base.

You can upgrade to Windows 10 with Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP1 installed. You must uninstall earlier versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection. The operating system upgrade stops if it detects an earlier version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

  • Windows 8.1 to Windows 10
  • Windows 8 to Windows 10
  • Windows 7 to Windows 10

Is this the anniversary update? If so, 12.1.6 MP5:

Symantec Endpoint Protection support for Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Sep 12, 2016 08:38 PM

I am currently running Symantec Endpoint protection version 12.1.6 RU6 MP3.  However, when I generate a new install package and then try to install on a Windows 10 machine, Windows 10 alerts that the package is not compatible with Windows 10.    This version 'should' be compatible, correct?

Hi.

I use SEP ver. 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6 MP5) build 7004 (12.1.7004.6500). My computer is running Windows 10 and when i try to install Anniversary Update, it says Uninstall this app now because it isn`t compatible with Windows 10. See screenshoot or uploaded file.

I uninstall, computer needs restart and then try again. This activity takes long time.

What i need to do for the next time when Microsoft produce next big Windows 10 update?

Is any solution?

Aug 01, 2016 03:40 AM

Hi!

I've done a fresh install of Windows 10 Version 10.0.14393

Whenever I try to install Symantec Endpoint Security I get this error: Symantec Endpoint Protection doesn't work on this version of Windows.

I've tried in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and 8, but still get the same result.

I would like some guidance on how to proceed please!

Thanks a lot!

To continue with on premises version can upgrade to Enterprise Edition of SEP. Upgrade path is supported. Check with license team/reseller for the same.

But the Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1.x product has reached End-of-life and is set to be replaced by the Hosted (or .Cloud) version of the product.

Please be aware of the official announcement in case you haven't received yet.

****  WARNING *****

DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 10 IF RUNNING Small Business Edition of SEP.  (NOT SUPPORTED)

Symantec SBE can only upgrade to 12.1.5 so you are out of luck and need to look elsewhere for antivirus if you want on-premise solution.

GOOD LUCK ALL!!!!   BYE TO SYMANTEC FOR ALL MY CLIENTS!!!!

Hi, there. Same for me. I later found by thorough searching this Symantec article that says you need to install a newer version of SEP. Here's their problem statement:

https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH234344.html

Problem

After updating a Windows 10 computer with Microsoft Windows update KB3140743 (March 1st, 2016) or any subesquent cumulative update (such as KB3140768), the Endpoint Protection client installation fails with a rollback.

Solution

This issue is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6.4 (RU6 MP4). For information on how to obtain the latest build of Symantec Endpoint Protection, see Download the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection.

May 24, 2016 06:14 AM

Okay, I've got 12.1.6608.6300 running on Server 2012 R2 Standard. In other parlance, that's 12.1 RU6 MP3 and the original version installed on this server. Had absolutely no problems with Win 8.1 Pro workstations. Tonight, I'm wrestling with getting SEP installed on the first Win 10 Pro machine put on the network.

I've used every weapon in my arsenal, not that I have a huge arsenal or anything, but I digress. Nothing I have tried works. Won't remote push. Won't install from network share. Won't install if i copy to desktop. Yes, used Run as Administrator and am logged in with Domain Admin account. Yes, I disabled Windows Defender RTP and all other functions.

Install goes through the motions to a point. Says it is installing, progress bar advances... then says Please wait while Windows configures.... but no progress bar (blank) and it says: Time remaining: 0 seconds. ..... FOREVER! Then the dialog box disappears... and SEP is not installed.

Answers please....

12.1.6168.6000 (12.1 RU6) does not support Windows 10.

12.1.6306.6100 (12.1 RU6 MP1) is the first to support Windows 10.

May 02, 2016 05:20 PM

Can't Symantec support ever use the VERSION numbers?
I've been all over this place. Your console gives VERSION numbers, in decimal format.
But no one that works for Symantec seems to know that.
I can only go by the console as far as the boss asking me what we are running, then I come here to look so I can answer his question and all I see are MP1 - so what the heck is MP1 in VERSION NUMBERS?

We have 12.1.6168.6000 - I wear 10 hats here, switching from switches and routers to servers to server OSs to domain controllers and back to SEP and then to Altiris and then to SEP again. It's been months since we upgraded SEP - I don't know what the MP is but can in 2 seconds find the version in the console.
How about a page with a translater - plug in the version number and it will tell me what MP we are at, or plug in an MP and it will give the long version.
OR, better yet, if you tell people they must upgrade to MPthis or MP that, also say "upgrade to MP1a which is version 12.1.6xxxxx.zzzz
A little help instead of assuming we all know very well what MP is what, or what a version number means-  some of us do more than just SEP every hour.
I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow or later to answer the boss now as I'll have to POST a question in the forum and hope support takes it seriously,  does our version 12.1.6168.6000 support 10 because the console won't give me an MP version and you won't give me a long form version number

Have you tried 12.1.6 MP4? It fixed a known issue with Windows 10:

Unable to install Endpoint Protection client on Windows 10 after applying MS KB3140743

Apr 27, 2016 01:09 PM

I'm having trouble trying to install SEP Version 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6 MP3) on the latest Windows Insider build of Windows 10 - build 14322 - released April 26, 2016. Install process seems to be work but abruptly ends and isn't complete. During the process I see a start menu item for SEP, but that disappears when the process ends. The client definition update that occurs after installation does not occur.

Any help, Symantec?

This version is not supported on Windows 10 and is end of support life. You need to migrate to SEP SBE (on-premise/cloud).

I have SEP 12.1.5 small buisness edition can I use this on windows 10. If yes then how to remove my old protection system from other supplier and install SEP 12.1.5

Feb 01, 2016 03:03 AM

If it's Enterprise Edition first upgrade the manager (SEPM) to the latest version. After successfully SEPM upgrade export the latest package & push out to SEP clients.

If it's Small Business Edition migrate to SEP.cloud to receive Windows 10 supported package.

Jan 31, 2016 08:09 AM

If you're already using SEP SBE it has been end of life so you will need to move to SEP.cloud cloud or on premises.

What version are you currently using?

Jan 31, 2016 07:39 AM

Thanks Brian

Do you suggest I upgrade the current locally installed SEPM or use the cloud version?

Thanks

I am having the exact same issue on a Fresh install I just did.

Have you had any luck on fixing this. Anyone have any ideas ??

Dec 18, 2015 07:09 AM

Hi,

In case if you don't have any plan to use Windows 10 operating systems can continue with the existing setup. To receive supported version for Windows 10 customer will have to migrate to SEP.cloud version.

If planning to migrate refer this guide: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/migration-overview-symantec-endpoint-protection-121x-premises-product-symantec-endpoint-pro

Hi,

The Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1.x product has reached End-of-life and is set to be replaced by the Hosted (or .Cloud) version of the product.

Hi,

If it's an unmanaged client install Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP2_All_Clients_xx.zip to upgrade SEP client.

If it's managed client upgrade the SEPM using Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP2_SEPM_xx.exe & then upgrade clients to SEP 12.1 RU6 MP2.

We are using a local installed managed solution, version info from SEPM SBE is: 12.1.5(12.1 RU5) build 5337 (12.1.5337.5000)

As I understand from your post Chetan, we will need to upgrade SEPM to version 12.1.6_MP2 to maintain WIN10 clients.

My problem is, that when logging in to MySymantec Licensing Portal, no newer version is available.

Can you tell me what to do?

Best regards Ole.

Dec 14, 2015 10:32 PM

The problem I'm having with Windows 10 and SEP 12.1.6 (12.1 RU6 MP1) is that Windows 10 is still trying to install Windows Defender update and since SEP turned off Windows Defender I'm getting an error like this:

• Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.211.2707.0) - Error 0x8007064

I've tried hiding the update with a special program from Microsoft but it keeps coming back and giving that error.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Kandahar, as mentioned above SEP isn't causing the issue you are having.  I had one laptop that did the same thing as what you are seeing.  You need to log off and log back in on an admin account to get into the system settings.  That works.

Nov 09, 2015 05:50 AM

How do you know SEP is the issue?

Nov 09, 2015 12:25 AM

Dear,

I am using Widnows 10 but I can't open widnows settings from Start menu and from syste tray icon area.

When i click it the page flickers then disappear.

Any solution???

Hi!

I'm lokinf for suport and direction. I would like to install the Windows 10 version on my wife's laptop. We have Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.4013.

Since my wife was in school we obtained it throught her University. I would like not to uninstall SEP for she just graduated last June and now we don't have access to the school software.

How can I uprade SEP so we could install Windows 10?

Also I am not sure if our version is managed or unmanaged. I believe it is unmanaged since I am the one going into Live Update to get the latest definitions, right?

Definitions are up to date as of today.

Thanks!

Jorge

Oct 15, 2015 06:26 AM

Chetan,

it's not entirely clear to me yet.

We have 12.1.5 (12.1 RU5) Build 5337

Do I need to uninstall SEP completely or just install a patch? Because I understand

a patch to be applicable to an existing installation, but you write to "uninstall earlier version"?

Which would be the right download?

Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP2_All_Clients_xx.zip

Symantec_Endpoint_Protection_12.1.6_MP2_SEPM_xx.exe

Thanks to you

Aug 30, 2015 11:49 PM

Very glad to hear about SEP 12.1.6, I'm in the process of upgrading from Windows 8.1 to windows 10, I shall update once the process has been completed.

Aug 25, 2015 08:00 AM

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) adds support for Windows 10 with 12.1.6 MP1.For Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1, a maintenance patch has been released on July 29, 2015.

I would suggest to upgrade the SEPM first and then push out upgrade package at clients as well.

OR

Download latest client package from fileconnect & install on Windows 10 machines as an unmanaged client.

Aug 25, 2015 06:27 AM

We have Symantec Endpoint Protection Managaer 12.1.5 instaleld on our server computer and several of our clients have upgraded to Windows 10. How can I create a Stand-Alone Installation Package for the clients with Windows 10?

Jul 31, 2015 06:20 PM

Not simple for 50,000+ clients....

Jul 31, 2015 05:24 PM

ThaveshinP, just update the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) and have that do all the clients.  That's what it's there for after all.

After downloading the newest version, I updated SEPM, created a install package and pushed that to my client groups.  Took about 5 minutes to create my packages and push to all clients.  They will silent install at my scheduled time.  It's simple.

Jul 31, 2015 04:13 AM

Great...BCS support saying that I know have to upgrade to RU6MP1 anyways for security flaws ..not just Win 10 compatiblity.

Jul 31, 2015 02:19 AM

I just rolled out SEP12RU6....does this mean I have to upgrade everything again to SEP12RU6MP1 just to get SEP installed on Win 10?
