Registry Key: Automatically Reboot on a BSOD

Mar 06, 2009 03:07 PM

Now I've written an article on my method of sending out registry keys using the deployment console, I can post up some registry keys to be pushed out. So here goes...

This registry setting enables you control over the setting that will cause a machine to automatically reboot in the event of a crash (blue screen of death).

The registry file itself looks like this;

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl]
"AutoReboot"=dword:00000000

If it's turned on (00000001) The machine will automatically restart and will not show you the BSOD. In this case check the event log to see the error(s)

If it's turned off (00000000) The machine will not automatically restart and will show you the BSOD until the machine is physically reset.

Note: For this setting to take effect you will need to restart the machine.
