The VLC Media Player Layer Definition File (LDF) package provides a mechanism for customers of Symantec Workspace Virtualization to create the Virtual Application Layer without the need to capture the installation.

- Symantec Workspace Virtualization v6.4 SP7 or greater
- Symantec Workspace Virtualization Layer Definition Tool. Download.

The steps for creating the VLC Media Player virtual application layer are as follows:

1. Extract the download that accompanies this article to your desktop (<VirtualApp><AppVersion> - where <VirtualApp> is the name of the virtual application, <AppVersion> is the version of the application and -x.x.x.x is the LDF version).
2. Double-Click the extracted .EXE (<VirtualApp>-x.x.x.x.EXE is a self-extracting zip). This will invoke swvldf.exe (Layer Definition Tool) with the proper parameters to create the Virtual Application Layer.

This LDF package is based on the "Portable Apps" version of VLC Media Player. The LDF package does not contain any VLC Media Player files, it contains a definition of all the files required to build a virtual application package. The portable structure is in no way required to virtualize this application. Use of the PortableApps files is convenient because the file download is reliable and the application structure complies with a well-known structure which facilities the creation of shortcuts using the LDF.
