The approach to designing an IT architecture and implementation is changing from a technology-centered paradigm to a solution that is based on business process orchestration. When IT solutions are centered on business processes, an enterprise can adapt process changes more readily to support changing needs from an operational perspective. Business process management (BPM) solutions using Symantec Workflow Solution provide insight about the enterprise that surpasses organizational and operational boundaries.
This paper will review the processes and methodologies that are considered standards to follow for developing workflows within an environment. Keeping in mind the different methods for approaching business process orchestration and adhering to a strict development regime; methods for creating a IT architecture using workflow solution will be explored through study of a composite workflow process based on BPM principles and a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach.
