I havent pushed it to any clients yet because of this,  from what I understand I was supposed to go to .6a before going to the _mp3. What steps should I take to rectify this. Thanks in advance.

Yes, when upgrading the SEPM from RU5 -> RU6MP3 you would want to take the intermediary step of going to RU6a first.  The best suggestion I can make is that if you have a database backup from RU5 is to get to a state where that backup is restored, and then progress through the supported migration path.

Hi Gebbert, as they have suggested. You should move first to RU6a before moving to the MPs. But since you've already migrated to MP3, have you noticed anything unusual on your end? Problems or minor irritations in SEP management. If you can compare logs and policies, etc.

Just curious on what would happen. Thanks.

    Hello Gebbert,

You won’t be able to do direct upgrade form 11.05 to 11.0.6 MP3.

    Upgrade path is as below,

    SEP 11.0.5 ----> SEP 11.0.6a ----> SEP 11.0.6 MP3

Please fine the Migration document as below,

    Hello ,

Try to push install few clients if it works fine  , you can continue using the same installation.

    Getting error :

If  you have taken the backup of SEPM 11.0.5 than you can follow the below steps,

    1 ) Uninstall the SEPM

3 ) Reinstall  the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) with a backed-up database.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH95925&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1307590381689

    Another method :

1 ) uninstall the SEPM  and  do  the Fresh install of SEPM 11.0 5

2 ) Direct the clients to SEPM new server

How to point Symantec Endpoint Protection(SEP) clients to a new Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager after you have either uninstalled, are going to decommission or replace the Existing Primary Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

-Try upgrade SEPM to RU6a then to RU6a MP1 then to MP3

    -Restore DB

this long process maybe can help you.

    Hello Gebbert,

If you don't find any difference in the SEPM its better you download the RU6A software from https://fileconnect.symantec.com

Once you have downloaded, extract the files.

Then login into SEPM. Click Admin tab - Install Packages - Add Client Install Package.

Then click browse & go to the RU6A software extracted folder. In that go to SEPM folder - Install Package folder. You will be able to select packages for 32-Bit, 64-Bit & for MAC. Import the packages.

    Logout & run upgrade.bat from :\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Enpoint Protection Manager\Bin

Login back to SEPM & export RU6a package.

    Start upgrading RU6a & then upgrade to RU6 MP3.

This should work because upgrading from RU5 to RU6MP3 might cause client communication issues. Hence upgrade clients to RU6a & then to RU6MP3.

    Hi,

migrating the manager directly from RU5 to RU6 MP3 is risky but not always fails, maybe you can live with it, keep monitor and test it for a while.

Regarding the clients, the official answer is "RU5 -> RU6a -> RU6 MP3" that's because "RU5 -> RU6 MP3" is not QA'ed but, frankly, it works in the most of cases, so if you test it in a variety of OSs and anything is OK, you can skip RU6a.

    Regards,
