  • 1.  adding clients to console on different subnet

    Posted Jun 02, 2007 09:44 AM
    Hi All,

Adding clients fromt the ghost console on a local subnet (remote install) works fine!.

However we have several clients that are not on a local subnet, they are connected
trough the main office using a vpn connection or using a cicso vpn client ending up
    at a cisco vpn concentrator.

When i add a client on a system that is on a different subnet i type in the ghost servername during the installation, however when the client is installed it says "trying to locate Ghostsrv"

if i check the logfile.it says:

5:24:24 172.20.1.1:1346 polling for server named ghostsrv
15:26:24 172.20.1.1:1346 polling for server named ghostsrv
15:28:24 172.20.1.1:1346 polling for server named ghostsrv
15:30:24 172.20.1.1:1346 polling for server named ghostsrv

now the ghostserver (ghostsrv) is located at the main office.

    on the following ip range
    172.16.x.x (subnet 255.255.0.0)

The client using a vpn connection is using the cisco vpn client has ip range
    172.20.1.1 (Subnet 255.255.0.0)

I can ping the ipaddress (172.16 range) of the ghost server from the client using the vpn without problems.
however i can't ping the server using the name itself, so i added the ghostserver name to the
local windows hosts file. After this i can ping the ghost server by name.

But the ghost client still is trying to locate the server, no success,
(i opened tcp port 1347, on the local xp firwall also)..

What else can i do to get this working ?

    Thanks for your help..
    Hans

Havent try it with a VPN connection before but my first option is to make sure broadcasttraffic is not blocked by a firewall.

    Hi,

I've tried to disable the xp firewall, but that doesn't make any difference,
there are no other firewalls in place.

    Other suggestions welcome!

    Thnks
