We are adding a new management server into our environment due to growth to help with load balancing.  Will this neccesitate a Sylink Drop or Communications Update package or once I add the server to the Management Servers list, will the clients receive the certificate and required information to be able to communicate to that server?

As a rep partner or just for failover?

All you need to do is add the new SEPM to the management server list

    @rsather

For both Replication and Failover you need to create a MSL.

    Eg :  Replication

    Priority 1

    Primary SEPM IP

    Priority 2

    Secondary SEPM IP

    Eg :  Fail over

    Priority 1

    Primary SEPM IP

    Secondary SEPM IP

I understand the MSL, the question is if I add a new server into the environment, and then add it to the MSL with the server cert go down to the clients so they can communicate with it?

Yes, assuming you set the MSL correctly.

they wont, your new server has to be set as replication partner only then clients report

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

We are adding a new management server into our environment due to growth to help with load balancing.  Will this neccesitate a Sylink Drop or Communications Update package or once I add the server to the Management Servers list, will the clients receive the certificate and required information to be able to communicate to that server?

--> No need to use Sylink Drop or Communications Update package. Clients will receive an update from thes SEPM.

Failover and load balancing configurations are supported in Microsoft SQL Server installations only. Failover configurations are used to maintain communication when clients cannot communicate with a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Load balancing is used to distribute client management between management servers. You can configure failover and load balancing by assigning priorities to management servers in Management Server lists.

    Simply follow these articles:

See Installing a management server for failover or load balancing.

See Configuring failover and load balancing for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
