    CMS 7.1 SP2 MP1

Can anyone tell me what specifically this does and why it would be in the Altiris Agent folder on some clients but not others?

    Hi!

For now, I can just say that on NS server 7.1 SP2 MP1 this AeXSWDUsr.exe is present in Altiris Agent folder, but doesn't exist on NS server 7.5 SP1.

    • Haven't found any information about description for this AeXSWDUsr.exe, but according to its abriviature, it relates for something like software delivery user detection/usage, software scan or software installation user settings rules... (If I will try to find a correct information about AeXSWDUsr.exe and then will let you know)
    • Also I see that this AeXSWDUsr.exe isn't automatically loaded with Altiris Agent, since if you will rename AeXSWDUsr.exe, then it doesn't throw any message that it is in use.

    Thanks,

    IP.

    Igor,

Thanks for the information! The background for my question is that it shows up as a difference on a baseline scan I'm doing of the Altiris agent folder.  Not a really big deal, but always nice to see the compliance at 100% rather than 99%. Wondering if I should delete it where present, or just run a task to make sure it is present on every client.

This utility simply starts Altiris Agent, it has been removed in 7.5 version.

You can do the same using the following commands:

    net start aexnsclient

    sc start aexnsclient

    aexagentactivate.exe

    Sergi,

    Thanks for the info.

Is the fact that it is on some PC's and not others in our envronment (which is all 7.1) a problem?

I don't know why it's missing on some of the machines but this is not a problem at all. The utility is not used by the agent itself, it was left in the agent package for few releases for backward compatibility - some users might use the utility in own scripts to start the agent.
