im looking for a SIMPLE ghost interface like the one that existed in ghost 9 and 10, so that i can take an image of my pc. its running vista so 9 and 10 dont work. i have GSS 2.0 and cant find an interface like this after installing this bloated product. am i missing something? or is what im looking for non existant? and if so, what are my options? is there a vista capable ghost like 9 and 10?

    Hi,

I think you refer to the wrong product. What you refer to Ghost 9/10 where not real original Ghost product line - it was consumer version of PowerQuest product line and yes you can purchase Ghost for consumer that will support Vista (look for Backup Exec System Recovery line).

GSS stands for Ghost Solution Suite and is a management suite (aka Ghost for Enterprise) that allows you to do much more than just taking a backup of your Vista machine. It is not really bloated - it is simply much more complex that Ghost for consumers. It provides you with management console from where you can control image capture/deployment, user migration, control backups, patch deployment and much more. If you are not intending to use Ghost console you can just use ghost.exe as a standalone tool to capture and restore your Vista volumes. However ghost.exe is not capable of taking "hot image" of your drive - you'll need to boot to DOS. Ghost Boot wizard is the tool that will provide you with all the functionality for building bootable floppies/CDs/USBs etc that contain embedded ghost in them.

Except there is nothing "Enterprise" about the GSS if you can't share the console.
