Altiris 7.1 , how to release License from decommission Managed PC?

  • 1.  Altiris 7.1 , how to release License from decommission Managed PC?

    Posted Mar 11, 2016 01:52 AM

    Hi All,

I have a All-in-One Altiris Notification Server 7.1 (Virtual Machine) for PC inventory & software deployment with MSSQL database 2008 R2.

Recently, I found some of our New PC haven't installed the "Altiris Software Update Agent".

After checked, our agent license of "Altiris Software Update Agent" is reached the limit (1499/1500).

In fact, many of PC that we installed Agent before are already decommission and disconnected from Network already.

What should I do to release those license on these decommision PC? Thanks.

    HI,

    Thanks.

    1) I can right click to set the Computer "Retired" (), but where can I view this PC active or retired status? THanks.

Open SMP Console -> "Reports" -> expand "Notification Server Management" folder -> expand "Server" folder -> expand "Resource Reports" -> "All Assets" report

By default asset status is empty there but if you will se "Retired" then "All Assets" report will show this information.

    Thanks Igor,

I got it, however, most of the Computer status is empty as you said...

How can I change the status to Active or Retired in a batch? As I cannot use so many time to change the record one by one.... Thanks.

If you have installed "CMDB Solution" then you will be able to change asset status to active, retired, etc for multiple selected computers simultaneously from mouse right click menu.

    An example:

    CMDB_Active.jpg

Or you can use a CMDB Solution task - "Set Asset Status" task

    Thanks,

But we haven't "CMDB Solution" installed on our Altiris, any other way to perform "Set Asset Status" Task? Thanks.

    Thanks.

Well, you can use a multi-selection and set appropriate Asset status even without installation of "CMDB Solution" product

    Thanks.

I can do so, then when will the License be released after I marked it retired?

    Many Thanks.

Base on the link you gave before it mentioned:

    "Deployment Solution" license reclaiming:

    • If client computer will uninstall "Deployment Agent" plug-in, then 1 license node will be reclaimed per this client pc.
    • License can be reclaimed, If client PC is inactive and you can Delete it or set as "Retired" from SMP Console (Of course if you have such privileges and approval)

    There is a setting in CoreSettings.config (C:\ProgramData\Symantec\SMP\Settings\CoreSettings.config)

    • <customSetting key="LicenseSynchronizeIntervalMins" type="local" value="240" />

After 240 minutes it should check license state and reclaim license node for retired computer(s).

In Altiris Log Viewer you will see informational message about license reclaim:

    • "Reclaimed license for resource 'ee3d0346-361b-497f-827d-4c4e02fe5fad' for policy '2c9a27a0-a5b4-4d9e-9d5b-b2e0a3fa99e5'","Altiris.NS.Licensing.LicensingPolicy.RemoveLicensedResource"
